Sburb: Deployable Items

Let’s talk about the items you can deploy using the Phernalia Registry I talked about earlier. Some of these machines are key to the game, so their purpose is very important for you to know.

The Alchemiter: The Alchemiter is an important part of any session of Sburb, and you should familiarize yourself with it as soon as possible. The Alchemiter is what lets you create items, and use combined Punch Cards to create new items out of fused cards using totems. We’ll talk about how to create and re-punch cards in a minute. The totem is placed on the small pad to the right, which is then scanned, and the item the totem is made to represent appears on the large pad for an amount of grist specific to each item.

The Totem Lathe: The Totem Lathe is what you’ll be using to carve Totems to represent different items to create with the Alchemiter, as well as what you’ll be using to create your Entry Item, which we’ll talk about later. In order to use this, you’ll need to captchalogue a Cruxite Dowel, which you can aquire from the Cruxtruder, which I will also be talking about in a minute. After you captchalogue the dowel, you can then read the number on the back of the card, and put in that numbered code into the the Punch Designix with a blank card to duplicate it. From there, just keep re-carving the Dowel however you’d like to create different items!

The Cruxtruder:

This big machine will be the source of many shenanigans at the beginning of your game. Upon opening it, a few things will happen. First, an unprototyped Sprite will pop out (we’ll talk about sprites later) and a timer will start on the screens. This timer varies from player to player, so keep an eye on it, and don’t lose track of time. I would suggest not activating it until you are ready and all of you equipment has been deployed. After the sprite pops out, you will also recieve a Cruxite dowel that can be used to create your Entry Item. This is key, and I will make a separate post explaining exactly the order to do all this in a timely fashion later. For now, I’m just explaining what it does.

The Punch Designix: Another useful tool, this allows you to put in blank captcha cards as well as a code so you can duplicate items. You can insert a blank card into the slot, type in a code for an item on the keyboard, and then it will punch the card to have the appropriate holes puched to create a Cruxite Totem in the Lathe for that item. You can also double punch codes by overlapping cards, creating cards for combined items that can then later be created with the Alchemiter.

The Jumper Block Extension: This is a machine that you use with the Punch Card Shunt which I will talk about in a moment. You attach the shunt to this in order for it to be used

Punch Card Shunt: You attach this to the blocks on the Jumper Block Extension, and put cards in the hole. The cards you insert (ex: lets say you insert a card with a code for a blender punched on it) will effect what the alchemiter does to the items. So, with the blender card inserted, it would blend up the totem rather than creating a new item. 

Intellibeam Laserstation: This rather expensive piece of machinery is used to read otherwise unreadable captcha cards. An example would be the sburd discs, which are othewise unreadable and cannot be copied.

Holopad: This addon to the alchemiter allows you to preview the item you’d be creating with your punch card. A rather nifty trick for people who want to conserve grist and not risk creating the wrong item.

The Cloning Pad: This is a mid-game item that you won’t find use for until later, but I will explain it here nonetheless. The Cloning pad is used to create Paradox Clones of the players. We won’t get into this too much now, if you want to find out more, wait for my post on Ectobiology.

Gristtorrent: The final item on the list for this post is a program called Gristtorrent. Players can use Gristtorrent to siphon grist from each other at varying rates. This is useful if one player has a lot of grist when another player needs some. I’d get permission from your fellow players before using it though.

That’s a lot for all of you to take in, I’m sure. So for now I’ll leave off here. This should give you a basic understanding of the tools you’ll have access to as a client player, and what exactly you’ll be using to help your co-players while you’re their server player.

Cruxite Artifacts? Your Entry Into The Medium!

So while not procrastinating on the Doom and Life posts, I did a little thinking about the Cruxite Artifacts in Homestuck and what purpose they serve, what do they mean, how to tell what kind of...

i am rather partial to this theory about entry items. that is, i love the shit out of it. for those who crave a little more information.

How to Enter the Medium

in order to enter the medium, you server player NEEDS to deploy the cruxtruder, alchemiter, totem lathe and random punched card. if you don't know what any of these things are, search them up in my search bar at the top of the screen. 

ok, so. you're going to need something heavy to knock your cruxtruder open, cause it's stuck tighter than some of dave's rhymes. your server player can help you with this by picking something heavy up and crashing it into your cruxtruder. i'm just going to call it a crux. so your kernel sprite shoots out and now you can turn the wheel on the side of the crux and some totally sweet CRUXITE (probably in a familiar color) will pop out the top. btw, a timer's just started on the crux and this is telling you when a meteor is going to hit your house. ((pssssssssssssssh))

take that shit and the punched card your server player generously dropped for you and run to your totem lathe! stick that card into the slot on the side of the totem lathe and get the cruxite (it's called a dowel too but who cares) all tightened in place. the totem lathe will now carve your cruxite.

take that carved dowel (also called a totem i think??) and bolt to your alchemiter. put the totem on the symbol (which is on a cylindrical pedestal attached to your alchemizer). I Said Put The Dowel On The Symbol!!!

your alchemiter will now alchemize your ENTRY ITEEEEEEM!!! it is sort of unique for every player and is supposedly a metaphor for leaving? (like, leaving earth. forever.) it will probably have something to do with your aspect. you have to interact with it in order to get into the medium. how you interact with it is different for each player. sometimes you're not suppose to interact with it at all! (like with jane?)

well, congrats. hopefully you've made it into the medium. it was sort of simple! a real piece of cake! (eheheheh.)

oh yeah, if you want to try to find more information about entry items, i think some people call it a cruxite artifact? you can look it up yourself, i haven't found much on my own.
