Something that I find fun is comparing the ways FFXIV and GW2’s in-game writing systems are different.

Like, looking at Eorzean script:

Most of those are pretty similar to their Latin counterparts! Sure, there are a few funky outliers like “K” and “P” and such, but for the most part if you showed me a random Eorzean letter and asked me to guess what it’s Latin counterpart is, it wouldn’t be too hard.

But then when you look at New Krytan:

Genuinely what is this. This is like an alien language to me. There are a few that are easier to guess like “H” or “T” but like. Why does the “N” look like an “S” and the “S” like an “N”? Why are some of them super simple like “P” being a down arrow while others are incredibly intricate like whatever the fuck they have going on for “W”? What was the thought process here?!

Just in case anyone else noticed and couldn’t figure out what the words rotating around Shinryu’s Ephemeral Shield are, they say:

The merchant said he’s the spawn of some kind of fox spirit, a “kitsune,” I guess. If that’s true ...

A) What kind of stupid do you have to be, to abuse such a creature?

B) More amusing, apparently as he gets older, he will grow extra tails, up to nine, to show how powerful he is. That seems silly. Is he supposed to be storing extra aether in them?

You can tell someone without a tail came up with this legend. I can’t even imagine having TWO.

He stole a Kojin relic, and got himself cursed by the Kami inside.

It’s downright cruel - he tried to make amends, and it just didn’t matter.

The Kami are about as understanding (and understandable) as the Elementals. No wonder the Elementals had to make a whole new kind of people to translate for them. Do the Kami have that kind of mediator? I don’t know - I’m not Doman.

I went to the market alone this moon; Iksa’s curse put him completely out of the action.

I should have bought a primer. From what I hear, Hydaelyn fucked me extra hard with Her “gift:” while I can hear and understand any language, spoken (or written in front of me,) I can only speak Eorzean.

I joined up with Min’to’s group, the Blind Eye, right before they moved to Kugane - you can see where this might be a problem.
