What do you think of that bit of the ending of Dragon Ball Z where Goku left and abandoned his family and friends to train Uub? That kinda seems really stupid to me. Heck, GT even states that he hasn't seen his family at all in the five years he was training Uub. I dunno, what do you think?
I like the ending of the DB manga for a few reasons...
One reason is that Goku doesn't actually abandon his friends and family. He says he will come visit sometimes.
The man can use Instant Tramsmission. He can come see his family at any time since he is on Earth. Goku would leave for weeks and months to go train on Beerus planet in DBS. This is basically the same except Goku is still on Earth and he is the teacher instead of the pupil this time.
Then there is the Neko Majin Z manga. It is a gag manga and shouldn't be taken as "canon" at all, but it seems that Toriyama expressed some of his thoughts in that gag manga. And that thought is that Goku's family comes to Uub's island to see him or they may have moved to the island (the symbol on the door implies they moved there in this gag manga).
To me, this reveals that Toriyama's thoughts are that Goku visits his family (just as Goku said he would do in the original manga) and that his family visits him too.
Another reason I like the ending of the original manga is because it's a reference to Journey To The West. The reincarnation of an ancient being in a human form goes on a journey with the Monkey King. But the unnatural ability and power that needs control is given to Uub instead of Goku while Goku takes the role of the monk who teaches. The "monkey" is the teacher while the "monk" is the student this time. The story feels like it doesn't truly end and I can see why ppl take issue with that. But the idea Toriyama had is great imo. We have Goku who is literally Sun Wukong in name, Saiyans also can represent Sun Wukong, the Namekian Sun Wukong, & now Uub joins Krillin as another human Sun Wukong (both mixed with aspects of the monk Tang Sanzang too). Maybe we can see the story continue after EoZ one day.
As for GT... That continuity made the decision that Goku never visited his family for 5 years despite Goku saying that he would visit his family in the original manga.
There are a lot of errors in GT. Like Trunks saying that he can sense 17 & 18's ki when they don't emit ki like that. Other erros too, but that's cause its a different continuity with different rules. And that's a conversation for another time.
im on a zektbach kick again so heres some malchut icons! free to use with credit, but if you'd like a better quality ver or without the "signature" then go ahead and hmu!
