sooo Klaus tells Damon "I've heard about you: crazy, impulsive vampire in love with his brother's girl.", aaaaand I have questions. who did Klaus hear it from? did everyone who came across the Salvatores left Mystic Falls mumbling about these idiot vampires fighting over a human girl?? who even was that?? pretty much nobody left the town, everyone who went there died. maybe a few of the tomb vampires? but that was early on. were there other supernatural creatures casually passing through town, without interacting with the main plot? did they see all the shit happening with Damon on the Council and Stefan in high school and thought "no, thank you"? and even if the news left the town, how did Klaus find out? he was described as a recluse, someone who doesn't go out and only trusts his inner circle. so did someone in his inner circle got back home one day and went "omg you're not gonna believe this!!" and they had a gossip session and did each other's nails?? did Klaus send someone to investigate before showing up there? if so, who? and how did this piece of information end up there? or is he referring to Katherine catching him up while he was in Alaric's body??
personally I'm gonna go with the version where everyone even remotely knowledgable about the supernatural who passed through town immediately clocked all the vampire shenanigans, decided to stay out of it, but still told everyone and their grandma about what they saw in this middle-of-nowhere town. and shit was just so funny that everyone spread the rumours to the point where even Klaus heard about it.
