Cooking cooking cooking so I mentioned an EphemeralArtShipping × Watchmaker of Filigree Street fusion that plays more into Brassius' passive suicidality bc like. Mori loves Thaniel so much that he's willing to take the L and also I think is largely willing to be much more passive irt himself and his fate than Brassius ever would be

And then I was like Okay well I've already written two fics that explore the implications of Art 4, and two is enough for me personally, like I feel like I've really examined every angle that could really catch my attention, so doing another pre-canon character study but this time make it Watchmaker didn't hold a lot of appeal to me

And THEN I was like. Okay so what do I have. A Brassius, built off Mori, who can "see" the future (semantics), is willing to sacrifice himself and his own happiness for the sake of his love's happiness, AND is suicidal. Passively, actively— this man believes he is fated to die

EphemeralArt is crucially missing a "Grace," but Watchmaker is not actually about a love triangle (if you could even call it that). Grace represents a normal life for Thaniel, a life without a weird sketchy little gay clairvoyant. A safe, stable life. Something that Mori clearly wants for Thaniel, because he sees the potential for Thaniel's happiness there. Now. What would Brassius want to for Hassel? What do they both value? What is so important to Brassius that he would throw away his own life to get it for Hassel? Fame.

Fame ensures that Hassel's family can't ever touch him. Fame gives Hassel financial stability and access to opportunities he would have never had before. Fame lets Hassel make his art as he wishes, and get the recognition he deserves.

What I'm getting at: Brassius sees a future where he dies, and his memory serves as a muse for Hassel, ultimately driving him toward fame and success and, yes, healing and happiness, and he decides to pursue it at all costs.

I'm pretty sure he's heavily inspired by Antonin Artaud, a french theatre practitioner who coined the term 'Theatre of Cruelty'!!!

If people are interested in him, please look him up!! They're incredibly similar even down to their catchphrase (avant-garde) and fun fact Artaud had a cane that he believed was given to him by Satan himself :D
