« Hey… » These conversations never got easier. It always felt far too intrusive for her tastes. Even after years of practice with the funeral home and her dad.. she still felt like a rat gnawing through dry wall, uninvited and violating. But the heart prevailed, even when social decorum SCREAMED at her to stay in her own lane.
Letting out a contemplative sort of huff, Yifei paused, concern knitting her brow, maybe she shouldnt be too direct, but, heavens that’d be worse, wouldn’t it? Decision made. Her voice dipped to just above a whisper
« Is everything okay? You’ve been out here for a while. Is, is it about her? »
(Left open ended, is she talking about Rika? Maki? Someone else entirely? Your choice!)
to be entirely honest, yuuta hadn't been expecting any conversation, so yifei's question breaking the silent atmosphere of the moment takes him a little off-guard despite its softness. he hesitates for a moment. "something like that," is what he settles on saying eventually.
unsurprisingly, yifei's managed to land right on the money. not that it's too hard to guess — after all, he's been sitting on a bench outside of the school for the last hour or so with rika's ring resting on his palm and a heavy heart, there's not much else that it could really be about. it always does come back to rika in some way or the other.
"i'm having a rough night," he admits, although he's sure that much must be obvious by now already. "but it'll be alright sooner or later; it always is. thank you for checking in on me."
