There's a reason why Odysseus sounded so broken when he had to choose between him and his crew. Let's not forget that.
Relistening to the thunder saga and people LOVE memeing on Eurylochus for the "but we'll die" line. You think Odysseus would just forget that he led this crew into battle for 10 years? That Eurylochus is his brother in law?? because they mutinized??? if Eurylochus would've done the same, like Odysseus had said, then Odysseus would've done the same in Eurylochus position. Hell the entire point of their development is that they changed into each other. Of fucking course he sounds so broken, he fought with these men for 10 years. Newsflash, one mutiny isn't gonna change that he actually cared about them. He had their backs, patched them up, lifted their spirits when they were down, fought like all hell to make sure they were okay before the Underworld Saga. He. Cared. About. Them.
That's why the choice was so difficult!!
“What did he think was gonna happen???” Eurylochus thought his captain was still in there. He had no idea just how far gone Odysseus was. He had known him as someone who cared for his men. Even after Scylla its difficult to accept someone you thought you knew so well had changed so drastically.
Can you tell I love this overhated diva?
I tried to draw him more sickly to show how starved and diminished the crew would be post Scylla
odysseus every time "we are so close to home this can't be where it ends"

I'm so tired of seeing people on the Epic fandom criticizing the crew for turning on Odysseus in Mutiny, so here is a little rant and analysis about it
Like put yourself in the crews shoes for a minute. Sure WE know that the Odysseus wasn't going to sacrifice any more men after Scylla but the crew has no way of knowing that, from their perspective their trusted captain (and maybe even friend) just willingly sacrificied six of their close comrades who they been with for (at least) the past three years (in Eurylochus case is even worse, cause in the animation Jorge comission he is holding one of the torches, so not only his close friend just sacrified six people, he was going to sacrifice him too). What guarantees the crew memebers that they wont be the next sacrificie, even worse they been starving, so what if Odysseus decides to kill one of them to eat them (Of course we know he would never do that but the crew is in panic mode a the time)
And even then it's clear that they still care about him (At least Eurylochus) cause they bandage his wound and Eurylochus stays to his side when they arrive in the island
The crew doesn't turn on Odysseus out of malice, they turn on him out of fear
And that is also why they run back to him after the cows incident, because they still care and trust him and the fear of the new situation cancel out the fear of the previous situation
I'm just so tired of the fandom hating on the crew for having normal reactions against Odys actions. It undermines both the tragedy of the crew (600 men that never got to see their families) and Odysseus transformation into the monster (Him making morally questionable choice in order to get to his objective), which is what makes them interesting
I think a large part of why Eurylochus feels so betrayed in Mutiny is because he has put Odysseus on a moral pedestal and Odysseus just put more blood on his hands. Like, in Scylla it's clear he still feels a lot of guilt about opening that windbag, inadvertently killing a large part of their fleet. He let those men die in his eyes, he sacrificed them. And for him, Odysseus is better than him, because he wouldn't do that, which is why Eurylochus brings up the Cyclops and Circe, where Odysseus went the extra mile to ensure the safety of their men. Yet, here he let six men die, but not only that, he asked Eurylochus to light up six torches, to give those orders, to pick the men who were to light their way. Odysseus unknowingly put Eurylochus in a situation where he also had a hand in a situation he never wanted to go through again and he only followed those orders, because he believed that Odysseus would never do such a thing. It's such a gut wrenching mix of emotions, that betrayal, from both sides.
i’ve seen a few people portray eurylochus as this like, cold hearted selfish stone faced dude. and i do not get that at all
“it’s because he’s a foil to odysseus! odysseus cares so much that he has to tell himself to stop caring so much and become the monster!”
YES, BUT athena is ALSO a foil to odysseus!! does that mean she doesn’t care about people?? no!!! she cares for telemachus, penelope, and especially odysseus. foils don’t always equal villains guys
here’s my main point, however: eurylochus is the representative of the crew. i would LOVE to see more people portray a closer relationship between eury and the crew.
let him form more brotherships with people other than ody!!! let him cry and be sad, maybe even breaking down when they die!!!! let him save them during battle!!! just, anything!! please i want some fluffy eurylochus food
people aren’t scared to write ody being absolutely distraught over polites's death…it’s time to give eury a turn. we won’t take the suffering from him
why does this matter so much to me? well it all has to do with the dynamic between him and ody. it just brings so much more perspective and nuance into it. humanizes eurylochus a little. people have such little understanding and perspective for him. the musical isn’t going to give us any more, so why not make some of our own, right??
odysseus’s priorities lie in his family. eurylochus’s priorities lie in the crew, his brothers.
BESIDESSSS!!! ODY IS PART OF THE CREW!! HES THE CAPTAIN FOR CHRISTS SAKE!! HE IS ONE OF EURYLOCHUS’S BIGGEST PRIORITIES!! IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE FOR EURYLOCHUS TO DISOBEY HIM AND MUTINY UNLESS ODY WENT AGAINST ONE OF HIS CORE BELIEFS—KEEPING THE CREW SAFE!!! JUST LIKE ODY IS WILLING TO BE MORE RUTHLESS FOR HIS FAMILY!! SEE HOW IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW???? AHSJSJJAKSJ
anyways that may or may not be the end of my rant. take this delirious post i typed when my brain was fried. toodles!!! :3
