Cinstiți pe 8 iulie, Sfinții Mucenici Epictet preotul și Astion monahul au trăit în Bitinia, pe coasta de sud-vest a Mării Negre, în timpul domniei împăratului Dioclețian (284-305). De tânăr, Sfântul Epictet și-a dedicat viața lui Dumnezeu, și a studiat intens pentru a achiziționa cunoaștere din Evanghelie. A intrat într-o mănăstire și, apoi, a fost găsit vrednic să fie hirotonisit în sfânta preoție.
