i haven't had a major seizure in a few years and i had kinda convinced myself i wasn't epileptic anymore so this was insane. thank god i don't have work tomorrow because that was one of the scariest post symptom experiences ive ever had. i was shaking so hard and i had the strangest taste in my mouth!! i feel better now and almost normal but i really nees to remember i cannot simply forget my anti convulsant from time to time anymore!! this is a life long disability 😔

Now that Halloween is coming up and I’ve already seen it starting, I want to remind everyone to please properly tag gifs/pictures with content that can trigger seizures you post/reblog and avoid using them in your themes for epileptics. Flashing/glitching/highly saturated/etc gifs/pictures are popular during Halloween so there is usually an influx of content that can cause seizures being spread around this time.

!!Please do not tag with ‘#epilepsy warning’!! 

This goes straight into tags epileptics use due to Tumblr’s messed up tagging system and does more harm than good in the end! Please instead tag specifics like ‘#flashing’, or combine the warning into one word like ‘#epilepsywarning’.

How to tag for flashing lights

This is a short PSA and isn’t meant to shame anyone who didn’t know the proper tags, only to educate.

I’ll preface this by saying not every epileptic is photosensitive and not every photosensitive person is epileptic, these are just the mistakes I see most often.

Firstly, never use the tags #Epilepsy Warning, #TW Epileptic Content, #TW Epilepsy, etc because if you put epilepsy/epileptic in the tag it’ll show up when people try and go through the tags #Epilepsy and #Actually Epileptic, which are community tags and used to talk about our experiences as epileptics. And having a bunch of epileptics looking at flashing lights is probably the opposite of what you were intending to do.

For the same reason you should never tag it as just #Epilepsy

Tags you can use: #Flashing, #TW Flashing, #Flashing CW, #Flashing lights, #Flashing Gif, #Flashing Colors, etc as long as it follows a commonly used trigger tag format 

I would say don’t do the thing where it’s like #Flashing ///////, because the  amount of slashes used varies from user to user and it’s unlikely that we’ll have blocked the tag with the specific amount you’re using. Also avoid using tags such as #Fl//sh//ng L//ghts, #Fl*sh*ng L*ghts, and #Attack of the flashies, (yes, I’ve actually seen someone use that one)

If you’re not sure if something counts as flashing or not, go ahead and tag it anyway, better safe than sorry. Some people are unbothered by twinkling or soft blinking, but in others it may cause a seizure, so it’s best to tag them all, just in case.

Seizures can be deadly, and everyone deserves to have a safe online experience
