jenny was an accidental trans allegory. the creators didn't intend for her to be one, but later came out to say that they could definitely see it and that they support it.
one of the ways in which jenny was accidentally trans coded is her insistence on not being called her "birth" name, XJ9. she wanted to be called jenny, which was the name she chose for herself. and her mom just kinda scoffed at her and only ever called her XJ9 anyway.

Claudia and Asra's feet were off the ground, starlight and silver surrounded them, enveloping them in warmth. Claudia gazed into the warm purple of Asra's eyes, remembering the lavender flowers she saw at the market. The dream, or maybe a memory, felt more real.
"Asra, where are we?"
Asra extends their hand to her, Claudia reflexively extends her own and hears him sigh softly when they feel her fingers in his own.
"You might not remember this when you wake up. So I wanted to show you another place. At least you can cherish it for now."
"Why can't I keep this memory? Why can't we remember this too?"
Asra's fingers caress hers and her heart jumps. The starlight makes his eyes shine vividly, he exhales slowly through his nose, "Do you need to remember this for it to be special?"
Claudia pauses, savoring the warmth between their fingers, "Is it selfish that I want to remember this? To remember you this way?
Asra stares back blushing and committing Claudia's starlit brown eyes to memory, "No. It's not. I was sort've hoping you needed me. Is that selfish?"

yeah i get it!! i honestly forget that familiars are meant to have magic of their own, i just see them as funny little guys with telepathic communication and longer lifespans than regular animals
