What kind of life expectancy can be expected for a cat with chronic kidney failure? My 9 1/2 y/o baby boy got diagnosed 2 weeks ago after bloodwork (high end stage 2), and after treatment via food he's doing way better (low end stage 2). The vet didn't mention anything about how it could affect his life span, and honestly I was too afraid to ask. I figure he'll be on this food for the rest of it though, which is expensive but he's worth it.
Talk to your vet because it depends on phosphorus, creatinine and urine protein levels, which is all information I don’t have and I’m not reviewing a case for a patient I can’t examine. Stage 4 chronic kidney disease is only a couple of weeks, but a lucky stage 1 or 2 renal case might go on for several years. Dippa’s been coping with it for nearly 5 years now. Diet makes a huge difference.
What system do you play overwatch on?

So I've been looking into getting a dog, but since I've got a cat I adore with all my heart I'm trying to be careful about breeds to make sure the dog will get along (cat grew up with dogs and even shared a bed with the family one we've got when they were small enough to). The problem I'm running into is that a lot of the breeds I like and tend to be cat friendly, don't tend to be very healthy (like Golden Retrievers). One of the big reasons behind getting this dog is something to (1/2)
(2/2) care for to help treat my depression, so if it did end up with a condition that caused a young death it'd be way harder on me than I could probably handle. So my question is, is there enough of a chance of finding a healthy one to risk it, or should I skip over the breed entirely? Or would looking into a mix be a good option? Thank you! (I really love this blog, I've been considering if I went into veterinary myself and it gives a wonderfully unbiased insight)
A better question is probably “Is there enough of a risk for a young death to prevent you from wanting this breed?”
Every breed, every individual, is at risk of dying young. Lymphoma breaks the rules, and tragedy happens. Death is fundamentally part of life.
There’s no breed I can say “you should get” because I can’t make any guarantees about life expectancy at all, and a human is going to outlive their dog most of the time in any case. It’s your personal call about which risks you’re prepared to take.
Having a list of breeds you’d consider, then going to shelters and checking out individual dogs that might be that mix could be worthwhile. You might find a young adult of about the right breed who’s already been raised with cats, which would be ideal. Plus you get to feel good in the knowledge that you will have directly saved a life. In a young adult dog their personality is likely to be already fairly stable, so what you see will be what you get.
I just wanted to say that I LOVE your OC and would NEVER get tired of seeing him!!!!
thank you! ;; (sorry I didn’t see this sooner, I’m not sure how long it’s been in my inbox; tumblr hasn’t been notifying me of new messages)

I promise you don’t need to romance any of them if you don’t want to. Most people do for the extra storyline, but it’s really not necessary (since you wouldn’t get all the romance storylines without multiple playthroughs anyways).
Thank you so much for this! This makes me feel a heck of a lot better
