Eppig Brewing 8th Anniversary West Coast IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 3 of 4. Surprisingly more malty and old-school than expected, though it's quite good. Some caramel and bready malt notes in the body and the hop notes are pretty standard citrus/pine with a little bit of vegetal character.
Eppig Brewing Eagle Rider Double IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 3 of 4. A bright, clean, big IPA -- lots of floral, herbal, and orange citrus notes in the nose, and a body that’s pretty aggressive on the palate. A bit of a sweeter malt note sticks out mid-body, but helps balance quite well, and finishes clean and dry.
Eppig Brewing’s Wake Up & Slay IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 3 of 4. Huge mosaic presence in the nose, and much the same in the body. Somewhat light bodied with quite a lot of pungent tropical fruit and some lemon on top of it. Not aggressively bitter in the body, but this is clear it’s an IPA from the West Coast. Nice.
Eppig Brewing’s Buoyancy Control IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 3 of 4. Smells great with some stone fruit and a lot of tropical and citrus qualities. The body has quite an aggressive bitterness to it with some resinous/pine qualities, too, with just a touch of fruity sweetness up front. Finishes clean and dry.
Eppig Brewing’s Nightlife IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 4 of 4. The hop aroma from the Nelson in this is pretty amazing -- lots of really bright white grape notes and plenty of tropical fruit behind it. Incredible nose. The body has some nice fruity sweetness up front and a pretty firm bitterness that comes in quite quickly. Very refreshing, and probably my favorite from Eppig so far. Helps it was canned 7 days before I had it, too, I imagine.
A taster set at Eppig Brewing in San Diego. From left to right, Mockery Pilsner, Factory of Dreams IPA, The Wolf Double IPA, and Moment of Weakness Sour. All easy 3′s. Good stuff -- All are well done for their respective styles, with the pilsner nice and refreshing, the IPA having a lighter but pretty standard fruity and citrus hop presence, the DIPA having a more pine/resin/herbal hop profile on some pretty aggressive bitterness, and the sour having some nice dark fruit qualities and nice light tartness. All very well-balanced.
Eppig Brewing’s Zwickelbier on tap at the brewery. A 3 of 4. Clean and good -- relatively standard lager nose with some nice floral and herbal notes. Some nice light grain sweetness in the body and more herbal/grassy qualities in the finish. Easy-drinking and has everything you’d want.
