The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has released the September-October prices for Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene. The new prices are inclusive of the 16% VAT in line with the Finance Act 2023.Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene have been increased by Ksh.16.96, Ksh.21.32, and Ksh.33.13 per liter, respectively. The new prices are effectively in place from September 15th to October 14th.EPRA reports that the new prices are due to an increase in the import of petroleum products. Super Petrol increased by 4.80% to US$774.67 per cubic meter in August from US$739.21 per cubic meter in July.The cost of Diesel per cubic meter increased by 12.52% to US$789.89 from US$701.99 in the same period, while the cost of Kerosene increased by 19.79% from US$690.58 per cubic meter to US$827.26 per cubic meter in the same period.In Nairobi City, the prices of Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene will retail at Ksh.211.64, Ksh.200.99, and Ksh.202.61 respectively effective September 15, 2024.In Mombasa, the prices of Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene will retail at Ksh.208.58, Ksh.197.93, and Ksh.199.54 per liter respectively. In Nakuru, prices of both products are set to retail at Ksh.210.63, Kah.200.40, and 202.01 per liter respectively.Prices of Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene in Kisumu and Eldoret a liter will retail at Ksh.211.40, Ksh.201.16, and Ksh.202.77. Ksh.211.40, Ksh201.17, and Ksh.202.77 per liter in Eldoret Town.Those are the purchasing rates in major towns. Every county and town has different costs of Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene as listed by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority. The new means prices will hit hard Kenyans in the next month before another review is released. In an economy where ordinary citizens are struggling to buy basic commodities and pay various bills, the economic impact on these products will be felt deeper.
