Homestuck Fanfic

I'm writing a reverse!petstuck fanfic, wherein humans are kept as pets on Beforus, Karkat is taking care of Dirk, and they have decided to start lobbying for rights for humans. The following passage will probably not make it into the fic proper but I enjoy it and the pairing upsets snarp so I'm posting it here anyway. Enjoy.

 The Equius situation is weird and upsetting and not something Karkat should complain about (though he does) because, as Sollux is forever reminding him, it's entirely his fault.

If it weren't for Karkat, Dirk would never have met Equius, might now even be aware of except insofar as he's met Horrus; certainly wouldn't have developed this weird flushed fixation on him and wouldn't be embroiled in a three-sweep plan to seduce him and definitely wouldn't be succeeding in his campaign to the point that the most hide-bound traditionalist in Trolldom is approaching Karkat to offer his damp and creepy support to their Human Rights Initiative.

Karkat is staring at his husktop screen, trying to make sense of the insanity his life has become and is forced to the conclusion, yet again, that is is All His Fault. Or maybe Dirk's.

No, Dirk was just bored.

(It's Kankri's fault that Dirk was bored. Maybe Karkat could blame him? But blaming Kankri always feels like a cheap shot, somehow.)

Dirk was just bored, drawing to pass the time, designing things because that's how his brain words and it was Karkat's idea to help him, to get better materials, to encourage him to go further with it. It was entirely Karkat's decision to go to Equius rather than Horrus for help. Horrus would have made just as much sense; he was older, more experienced, and he was Kankri's friend, kind of, and Dirk was still Kankri's human, back then. But no, that kind of logic just didn't work for Karkat and he just had to decide it should be Equius. He just had to troll Equius, had to decide it would be less weird to contact one of his own kind-of friends about this human with an interest in robots, had to take him to the Zahhak hive and let him prove himself a gogdamned savant, make Equius sweat and refuse to comment, and develop this <i>crush</i>. Had to keep taking him over, twice a perigee for close to a sweep, even once Dirk clearly knew what he was doing and, moreover, knew what he wanted. Even after Equius was clearly impressed, beyond impressed, had sweated a dozen towels to dripping in a single half hour. Karkat just had to encourage the kid in his robotic fantasies, had to get Equius involved.

He should have just let him cook.

2. Relationship status? If you have a significant other, how did you meet them? ooh okay i'm with robert, and i met him because i switched accounts with empor for a day and he followed my blog so he could harass empor, and we just kept talking after that uvu  

3. What are your thoughts on self harm? well, i'm not fond of talking or hearing or seeing anything about it, but i understand the reasons behind why some people do self harm, and i know that people need support from me, and i won't deny them the comfort of a listening friend.

4. If you could be the opposite sex for a day, what would be the first thing you did? i would probably just stare at my chest and then walk around shirtless all day because nobody gets angry at guys who walk around shirtless esp if they're not gross like my brother
