He was gone before she could do anything, and it seemed to confirm what she'd said. That their relationship had been one sided this entire time. Such an understanding cut deeper than any sword could have ever hoped for.
Maybe that was how things were meant to be. After all she'd put him through, she was meant to be the one who got hurt. It was her actions as a child that had forced him into the situation. Sending him to his childhood was supposed to let him mature, not turn into a rock.
The friend she'd cared so much about seemed to be lost to the echoes of time.
It was some period later that she finished up a meeting with the Sage of Spirit. The woman was on her way out of the desert, when those who wanted to see the Evil King return to Hyrule closed in. Just about everyone knew, the only way to break the seal was to end the queen's life.
She's not afraid to defend herself, calling upon the elements of the Goddesses. However, she wasn't blind to what was going on, either. This woman was not fighting alone. It seems that someone had joined the fray, though it took some time to realize just who it happened to be.
Temporarily stunned by his presence, she's unaware of that who was just behind her.
And as quickly as it started, it was over. She had only a moment's notice to turn, certainly not enough time to react. For just a moment, it felt as old times. Just as he'd protected her so she could perform her sealing magic, here he was again. Only this time, he was a true adult.
Maybe she'd judged too quickly. Maybe there was still a glimmer of that little boy left.
