The video, re/cover, is a performance and video piece created in collaboration with classmates Aaron A. Gohlke, B. Root, and Elise Weber by Eric Thayer.
Eric Thayer is an artist and educator who works in sculpture, ceramics, performance, and installation. He is a graduate of the University of Toledo with degrees in Studio Art and Art History, and has either exhibited or taught art at institutions in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Florida, and Texas, most notably the Toledo Museum of Art, the Erie Art Museum, Florida State University, and the Blaffer Art Museum.
A former Merit Fellowship winner at the Contemporary Artists Center-Woodside in Troy, NY, he is currently a Cynthia Woods Mitchell Fellow at the University of Houston School of Art, working towards his MFA.
Thayer is interested in identifying and interrupting the myriad of political, social, and economic systems that we as humans have built up over time on both microscopic and macroscopic levels. He was born on post in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and currently lives and works in Houston, Texas.
He’d like to thank, in no particular order; Justin and Brittney Kemper, Sarah O'Neil, Sean Lawler, Jason and Meredith Campbell, Gene Tegenkamp, Tyler Dearing, Kyle and Kristen Barry, AJ Malatesta, Michael Szekely, and Russel Scatturo for all their help and support throughout his life and career thus far.
This post is part of the Center for Arts Leadership Student Board’s series focusing on the artists of the University of Houston.
