Handmaid Yuu with Family! Characters
Oh my goodness, aren't you a sweetheart? Georgina doesn't act any differently with Yuu regardless of her past. Well, maybe she's a little more affectionate with her than she would be with any random stranger. But they don't count as strangers now, do they? Floyd and Jade have told her SO MUCH about Yuu that Georgina feels like she already knows her. It breaks her heart to see Yuu so tense around her, clearly not used to interacting amicably with women. Don't worry, sweetheart, Mama Leech will give you all the help you need! Even if it means scolding her sons for being a bit rough.
Georgina definitely knows about Yuu's background. When she finds out, she doesn't lose her smile, but you can see her face harden. In her own way, she does her best to befriend Yuu (who had never seen other women as anything other than threats), trying to make sure she has a good time at the event, taking a walk along the seaside, even going for a gondola ride without anyone pulling them over so she can relax. She ends up being nicer than Yuu expected, but at least she's happy.
Similar to Georgina, she's very eager to finally meet Yuu after everything Deuce said about her. However, she's a little worried when they meet and Yuu is clearly on edge, acting overly formal, almost as if she's afraid of her. Dylla is less overwhelming than Georgina, but no less loving. She subtly lets Yuu know throughout the event that she has nothing to fear, that if anything, she's there for whatever she needs. Whoever is important to Deuce is important to her.
Dylla would eventually learn about Yuu's background during the event or winter break, when Yuu spends time at the Spade house. Dylla already found it strange that Yuu didn't know normal things or needed special lessons to learn to read, but this is…A LOT to process. Dylla ends up spending winter break helping Yuu with her grammar lessons, both frustrated in the process, but having a good time.
Eric was surprised to learn that Vil had made a female friend at NRC, but the surprise turned to concern when he formally met Yuu. Let's just say that so many years as an actor make you notice the little details, how someone shrinks back, falls silent, avoids eye contact… Let's just say he had to have a talk with Vil about whether Yuu came from an abusive home. Which is true, to a certain extent. Eric does his best to make Yuu feel comfortable in his presence, but it's difficult to navigate through so many years of trauma. He hopes she's okay now…
Definitely happy to see Yuu again at another red carpet event with Vil. He almost didn't recognize her this time without that strange robe, but in a good way—she looked so much happier! He takes the opportunity to congratulate her on it.
A typical grandmother, Marja immediately notices how thin and pale Yuu looks, nearly fainting at the thought that Yuu is ill. So, using a few words Yuu can't understand because of her accent, she prepares a hot pot of food to fill her stomach, and she won't stop serving until she believes Yuu has genuinely eaten enough (the equivalent of walking into the kitchen and rolling out).
Marja doesn't need to know what happened to Yuu beforehand; she can sense that something terrible has happened to the girl. She offers wordless comfort, silent support, in the form of food, sweaters, even holding Yuu's trembling hands when she realizes she's afraid of knives. That's enough for her to know that everything will be alright.
To be honest, Namja thought that when Jamil talked about Yuu, he was referring to some kind of secret girlfriend or something. After all, who would put up with Jamil in the kitchen just like that? And when she met Yuu and saw that she was also a pretty girl, she was even more convinced that there must be something more, but there wasn't. Namja was quite confused one day when she woke up in the middle of the night (Yuu had come to visit for spices) and Yuu was washing the dishes with her eyes wide open. She almost had a heart attack.
Namja is young; she doesn't need to know about the kind of life Yuu led. She doesn't want Namja to know, so she asks Jamil that any information of that kind that she shares with him should stay between them. Jamil understands this and agrees (neither of them has any idea that Namja has no idea about any of this and thinks that the two of them are dating).
Oh, Yuu absolutely LOVES this furball. She wouldn't have tolerated all of Leona's negative talk about Cheka if she'd known she was this little angel sent by God himself (Leona will now have to keep quiet while Yuu cradles Cheka in her arms; she's Leona's new favorite). Yuu never had the chance to raise her own children, so Cheka's energy and joy make her feel so…nostalgic, revitalized, HAPPY. She doesn't know how to explain it, but when she wants to hold Cheka, she almost bursts into tears; it's overwhelming.
Cheka has no idea what's going on; she just came to visit her uncle, but he and this kind lady are having a really good time! Maybe she's friends with Uncle Leona? Cheka definitely enjoys Yuu's attention (plus, she forces Leona to be a decent uncle when he's around, so it's a two-for-one deal), though he definitely worries when he sees Yuu distressed. What? What do you mean by saying you're crying because you're happy?
