Here's how much sugar is in your favourite soft drinks
If you enjoy washing your lunch down with a fizzy soft drink, we have bad news. Earlier this week, the World Health Organization issued a recommendation to increase the tax on sugary drinks to at least 20 per cent, as a way to reduce obesity and chronic diseases such as Type 2 diabetes. So (brace yourself) we took a look at exactly how much sugar is in popular soft drinks, ranking nine of the biggest and most popular offenders from least to most sugar. No. 9: Red Bull
The de facto companion for all-nighters — Red Bull Energy Drink contains 27 grams of sugar per can.
No. 8: Rockstar
Similarly, Rockstar Energy Drink also has 27 grams of sugar per can.
No. 7: Canada Dry Ginger Ale
Canada Dry Ginger Ale is more sugary than ginger-y with 32 grams of sugar per can.
No. 6: Brisk Iced Tea
Don't let its iced tea label fool you. Brisk has 33 grams of sugar per can.
No. 5: Sprite
Sprite packs 38 grams of sugar per can.
No. 4: Coca Cola
While it's regularly vilified for it's high sugar content of 39 grams per can, Coca Cola doesn't actually have the highest amount of sugar in this roundup.
No. 3: Pepsi
Pepsi clocks in with 41 grams of sugar per can.
No. 2: 7 Up
And 7 Up just edges it out with 42 grams of sugar per can.
No. 1: Mountain Dew
But the biggest offender is Mountain Dew with 46 grams of sugar per can. That's 11.5 teaspoons of sugar!
