This photographer is capturing the mesmerizing beauty of albino people

Albino people are often unfortunately as social rejects or misfits -- think “The Da Vinci Code” and “Matrix Reloaded.” But one photographer is shattering that stereotype in a beautiful photo series.

Yulia Taits, 38, from Moscow, photographed a series titled “Porcelain Beauty” featuring people with albinism — a disorder that causes the complete or partial absence of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes.

“Their beauty is so pure and amazing to me, as if it was taken from fantasies and fairytale legends,” she wrote on Bored Panda.

“As an artist, I love using Photoshop to create fantasy worlds, but this series was made without Photoshop which was a big challenge for me.”

All of Taits’s photo subjects were dressed in white and were photographed against light backgrounds with white props.

“I wanted to prove that white is not just one colour! It has many tints, shades and beautiful tones.”

Dad of four shares hilariously unfiltered struggles of  parenting

Simon Hooper is no ordinary parent. He’s the father of four young daughters — a 9-year-old, a 6-year-old and 10-month-old twins.

Sharing a home with five girls (wife included) is no walk in the park and Hooper makes no attempt to make it seem that way. Instead he shares refreshingly real glimpses into his parenting struggles on his Instagram page — diaper changes, spit ups and all.

Grocery shopping

“Another Monday, another last minute rush to the shops to avoid the armageddon I.e running out of nappies, wipes & baby crack (milk) for the addicts. I basically live in this aisle of the supermarket now. New parents seem to gravitate to me as an ‘experienced parent’ (i.e. the tired looking guy shivering in the corner) and ask ‘do you know where so and so is please?’ My response - ‘Sure 3rd shelf, half way down on the left hand side, buy 3 & get a discount, Although you want to use that in combination with blah blah blah.’ I'm like a walking encyclopedia of baby product info. I used to use my brain to solve global corporate wide problems. I now use it to calculate bulk buy discounts.”

Getting dressed

“Should I get offended that when I'm in charge of dressing the girls, instead of being given free rein to 'get creative' and use my couture fashion eye to create a 'wow' outfit that will catch the eye and imagination, I walk into their room and find that all the clothes are laid out already. Granted I have a tendency to dress them as boys, and will invariably forget the importance of layers, and that spots and stripes clash, and that socks are essential, and that a baby grow doesn't count as day wear, and that [if] I dress them the same, I can’t tell them apart for the rest if the day, but surely if you give me a chance, the law of averages will mean I'll get it right one day!”

Sleeping

“Is it only me or do all men learn to sleep on an 8 inch strip at the edge of the bed? Irrespective of the size of the bed, or how many people are in it, I always find myself relegated to the 'man zone'. I've become so used to sleeping on this limited area of bed real estate, that I'm confident that I could sleep on top of a wall & not fall off.”

School projects

“Last night - ‘Oh daddy, remember to make our woodland themed costumes for school tomorrow!’ - Why is this the first I'm hearing about this at 8pm the day before you need them - I'm not some 24 hr costume design dept! Considered slapping a door mat on their backs and sending them off as hedgehogs but decided that was shit, so my plan to cuddle up with @mother_of_daughters wilted & died before my eyes & instead was spent contorting sodding coat hangers into wings, wrapping them with cling film, skewering myself attempting to attach fake leaves to jumpers & rummaging around in the loft for brown clothing (of which I can confirm we have none). They were woodland fairies FYI.”

Texting

“The wonders of modern technology. Why, oh why did I give my eldest an ipod touch? Yes, its great to stay in contact while im away but my inbox is now full of emoji based spam from my bored daughter. (The emoji poo is a firm favourite).”

Bath time

“Why does bathtime always involve cramming as many family members into one of the smallest rooms in the house at the same time? I guess [for] the eldest two like it as it's like a cheap version of the sea life centre. They get to watch these weird pink slippery things splash about and generally contort themselves out of these chairs while sucking the life out of some sponges. Clemmie and I are there just play life guards and crowd control. I should charge admission. Just avoid the dirty nappies at the door and the water EVERYWHERE. Actually, forget it - Health and safety would definitely shut us down.”

Shopping

“What do you get if you cross claires accessories with 4 girls, 2 of whom who have just drank a coke, and a tired dad? 10 minutes of dressing up followed by 20 minutes of trying to get them to leave. There's just too many of them, you get one and the other sods off to hide in the hair bands - I can hear the giggling, I just can't see them through the haze of pink and sparkles. At least i found the tiara i was after. I look Bangin'!”

The talk

“This week my eldest has been doing sex education at school. Shes very mature about it & having a midwife as a mum, they know a lot more than your average kid, no 'front bottoms' or 'nunnys' in this house, it's strictly a 'vagina' affair (which coincidently would be a great title for a drama series on TV) That said, she's chosen tonight (when @mother_of_daughters is away) to ask questions about men which makes me feel like an embarrassed child, but i promised to tell her the truth. My personal favourites - ‘Do you wear a condom daddy?’ Me - ‘Yes’. Then why do you have so many children? Touchè.”

When the kids are away

“I'm not usually a sloppy bag of blubby emotions but after 4 days of not having the eldest 2 around I'm really starting to miss them. Yes they are annoying and use me as a personal slave / climbing frame. Yes they are noisy and can drive me nuts. But they are mine and life isn't quite the same without my little partners in crime. (Note to self, must read this back when they are next hacking me off - they aren't all that bad really!)”

9 things in your home that are dirtier than your toilet seat

Think of the dirtiest place in your home -- your toilet probably comes to mind. However, you’d be better off eating off it than your chopping board or a plate scrubbed with your kitchen sponge.

We’ve identified nine places in your home that probably have more bacteria than the loo. Get cleaning!

Kitchen sink

Despite regularly coming into contact with water and soap, your kitchen sink probably has more germs than your toilet. That’s because it also comes into frequent contact with food. There’s more than 500,000 bacteria per square inch in the drain alone. 

Action plan: Scrub it with hot water and soap once or twice a week and always remove any food scraps.

Kitchen sponge

Left wet and often with tiny food bits stuck to it, this nasty germ factory can be 200,000 times dirtier than your toilet.

Action plan: While there are multiple ways to clean a grimy sponge (dishwasher, microwave, etc.), the easiest way is to replace it regularly.

Your laundry and washing machine

What do you do in between laundry loads? Read a book? Watch a movie? Take a nap? If you leave you clothes for longer than 30 minutes after the wash cycle, bad news — You should rewash the entire load. Often times the cold or tepid water used to wash your clothes isn’t hot enough to kill bacteria. Plus, we all know that bacteria flourish in wet areas making your laundry room a perfect hang out spot. 

Action plan: Set a timer for the end of your wash cycle so you know when to take your clothes out and leave your washing machine lid open after to let it completely air dry. If you have a front loading machine, the rubber gasket tends to be a mould hotspot. Wipe it down often.

Bath tub

It may be hard to believe that the place you get clean in is, in fact, rather filthy. The germs that you’re washing off your body can multiply in the moist environment of your tub or shower. According to Today, tubs have over 100,000 bacteria per square inch. In a study by NSF, a nonprofit that develops public health standards, 28 per cent of bathtubs, compared to just 6 per cent of garbage cans, harboured the bacteria staphylococcus, which can cause problems like skin lesions and UTIs. 

Action plan: Keep those germs away by disinfecting the shower once a week.

Carpets

Your plush wall-to-wall carpeting is actually hiding wall-to-wall bacteria colonies. From E. coli to salmonella and staphylococcus, these bacteria feed on the 1.5 million skin cells you shed every hour, not to mention the food particles that fall onto it as well as pollen and pet dander. Your vacuum cleaner’s suction may clean the surface of your carpet but it often doesn’t reach the bottom of its fibres, which hides about 200,000 bacteria per square inch. That’s 4,000 times dirtier than your toilet seat. 

Action plan: Steam clean your carpets every 1.5 years.

Coffee maker

There’s more than stale coffee lurking in your coffee pot. A study by the National Science Foundation found that one in 10 coffee makers contained coliform bacteria (which, in continuous doses, can make humans sick). The coffee maker’s water reservoirs were also found to contain more germs per inch than bathroom door handles and toilet seats. 

Action plan: Remove wet coffee grounds after each use and rinse the filter basket to reduce the chances of mould. Wash the carafe, lid and filter basket. Once a month, de-calcify your coffee machine with one part vinegar and one part water.

Toothbrush holder

Whenever you fiush your toilet, it sprays the room with a fine mist that reaches as far and as high as 20 feet. If your toothbrush or toothbrush holder is exposed, it’s easily contaminated -- and this applies to anything else within its radius, too, like towels and makeup). According to the NSF, toothbrush holders often contain traces of fecal matter. Bamboo or wooden toothbrushes were also worse offenders than ceramic, stainless steel or plastic ones, as they are harder to disinfect. 

Action plan: For the love of God, close the toilet lid before flushing and place your toothbrush holder in the dishwasher once or twice a week.

Chopping boards

According to Dr. Charles Gerba, “In most cases, it’s safer to make a salad on a toilet seat than it is to make one on a cutting board.” Yuck. According to him, a chopping board has 200 times more bacteria from raw meat than a toilet seat. 

Action plan: Have separate chopping boards, one for meat and one for vegetables, to avoid cross contamination -- and clean them with a kitchen disinfectant.

Refrigerator handles

This is one of the areas of the home that’s handled daily by multiple people, so it’s no wonder that it’s contaminated with bacteria. In fact, there’s almost five times as much bacteria on a refrigerator handle than a toilet seat. 

Action plan: Wipe it down with an antibacterial wipe daily.

Here's why men in Japan are wearing pregnancy suits

If you're sick of your husband not helping out around the house, you may need to get him a pregnancy suit.

Recently, three Japanese politicians donned the suit in a video to encourage a nation of workaholic men to help out more with household chores.

This came after a 2014 OECD survey pronounced Japanese men as the most unhelpful in the world. The study found that for every one hour of unpaid chores a man did in a day, their wives did five!

The video has since gone viral with more than 135,000 views.

Here's how much sugar is in your favourite soft drinks

If you enjoy washing your lunch down with a fizzy soft drink, we have bad news. Earlier this week, the World Health Organization issued a recommendation to increase the tax on sugary drinks to at least 20 per cent, as a way to reduce obesity and chronic diseases such as Type 2 diabetes. So (brace yourself) we took a look at exactly how much sugar is in popular soft drinks, ranking nine of the biggest and most popular offenders from least to most sugar. Ontario woman banned from Facebook over photos of nipple tattoos for breast cancer survivors

This isn’t the first time Margeaux Collyer has been banned on Facebook for posting images of breasts. This isn’t her second time, either. Last week, the London, Ont. woman was kicked off the site for the third time, and had over 95 images removed because of visible nipples violating Facebook’s guidelines.

Except, none of the nipples were real.

Collyer is a micropigment artist who works with breast cancer survivors who have undergone breast reconstruction to creates 3-D areola nipple tattoos. Collyer herself is a cancer survivor of nearly two decades.

“Facebook is totally missing the point. It’s not a nipple. It’s not an areola. The nipples were removed because of cancer,” she told the National Post. “These women almost died. These women have been to hell and back.”

She says the realistic nipple tattoos help those who have undergone mastectomies, or who have irregular or fading areolas “feel and appear ‘normal’ again.”

In its Community Standards, Facebook states, “We restrict the display of nudity because some audiences within our global community may be sensitive to this type of content – particularly because of their cultural background or age.

“We remove photographs of people displaying genitals or focusing in on fully exposed buttocks. We also restrict some images of female breasts if they include the nipple, but we always allow photos of women actively engaged in breastfeeding or showing breasts with post-mastectomy scarring. We also allow photographs of paintings, sculptures, and other art that depicts nude figures.”

Collyer is hardly the first woman, or the first Londoner, to challenge Facebook’s nudity guidelines. Area photographer Laura Robinson was also temporarily banned from Facebook for posting a photo gallery of topless women — even thought their nipples were covered by her arms.

Following that Robinson issued a call asking women of all sizes, ages, races, abilities to join her for a photo series with the hashtag #dontbanmybody. The women posed topless but this time with black tape covering their nipples.

Robinson also met with Collyer to photograph some of her clients.

“We are trying to highlight Facebook’s arbitrary ban/reporting system that disproportionately subjects women-identified bodies to greater levels of scrutiny even when our photos 100 per cent meet their stated community standards,” she writes in a post. “My body is not offensive. My body is not inherently pornographic.”

In their Community Standards, Facebook admits that they “can sometimes be more blunt than we would like and restrict content shared for legitimate purposes [but they] are always working to get better at evaluating this content and enforcing our standards.”

Collyer has sent in an appeal to Facebook thrice but her account remains permanently banned.

Autistic 8-year-old pens heartfelt letter asking if autistic fairies exist

If some people have autism, do some fairies have autism too?

That’s what 8-year-old Cadence pondered on in a heartfelt letter shared on her blog, I am Cadence.

“Dear Fairies, I want to know please, is there an autism fairy?” Cadence writes. “What is her job in fairyland? Can she visit me? I am autism too.”

“I will be very gentle and I promise I’m a kind girl and won’t put her in a jar,” she adds.

In answer to the young girl’s plea, the ‘Queen Fairy’ penned her own response, which was also shared in the blog post.

In it, she explains that there are no autistic fairies.

“In Fairyland, where your world ends and our magical one begins, physical and brain differences are not much thought about; they are just a part of each fairy’s unique way of being and doing,” it says.

“So no, there is no special Autism fairy. But kindness, compassion, understanding, friendship, teamwork, courage and hope… That is the real magic of Fairyland and it is your magic too.”

The letters are part of a common thread on Cadence’s blog that sheds a little light on how it feels to be autistic and aims to challenge the way others see people with autism.

In a recent post, Cadence questions why people label autism.

“I don’t think that’s right. My label is Cadence. One of my ingredients is autism.”

For good measure, she includes an adorable illustration comparing her “ingredients” to a can of tomatoes, including things like “autism,” “clever cells” and “caring cells,” as well as proudly declaring that she has more ingredients than tomatoes.

Dad dresses up as mermaid alongside daughter, wins the Internet’s heart

Everyone can pack up and go home because this father-daughter duo have won the Internet for the day.

A picture of a little girl dressed up as Ariel from “The Little Mermaid” being accompanied by her mer-dad in Disneyland has gone viral on Imgur and Reddit. Not only did the dad wear a giant sparkly mermaid tail, he accessorized with a gold crown and hand cuffs — possibly to look like King Triton.

As Little Mermaid fans would know, King Triton is Ariel’s dad, which just adds another layer of cuteness to this photo!

“I’m sure he’d be carrying around a fake trident too if park security would let him,” wrote one Reddit commenter.

Since the image was posted, it’s been viewed over 1.5 million times and has attracted hundreds of comments from non-merfolk, most of them praising the dad’s actions.

“Now that is how you dad,” wrote ricochetbiscuit on Imgur.

“As a person who’s dad wasn’t always there, this made me cry,” wrote the13pianist on Reddit.

One commenter even shared a story of his own — “I went to Disney’s Not So Scary Halloween at Disney World with my daughter last night. She wanted us to all go as princesses, so not to disappoint I went as the fattest and ugliest Cinderella you have ever seen. I had a blast.”

This mom didn't let breastfeeding get in the way of taking a photo with Belle

Disneyland may be “The Happiest Place on Earth” but not if you’re a hungry irritable infant. And mom Mari Villaluna knew that.

Villaluna was celebrating her 2-month-old baby’s birthday at Disneyland’s Ariel’s Grotto Restaurant which features different Disney characters who stop at diners’ tables for photo ops.

However, just as Belle from “Beauty and the Beast” was about to stop by, Villaluna’s baby started fussing and needed to be fed. But instead of excusing herself to tend to her child, Villaluna stayed and took a photo with the princess instead, while breastfeeding.

“I didn’t want my baby to miss out taking a picture with Princess Belle so when she came to me I smiled for the picture,” she told The Huffington Post. “We even took a group picture with Belle while I was breastfeeding. I literally started to feed her right before the picture was taken.”

Villaluna later posted the image on Instagram, showinghow she didn’t let a hungry baby ruin the moment.

“You feed your baby, smile for the picture and enjoy your magical disney moment while breastfeeding,” she wrote and included the hashtags #normalizebreastfeeding and #breastfeedwithoutfear.

According to Villaluna, the staff at Disneyland were also “respectful” whenever she breastfed and no one “blinked an eye” when she had to nurse outside of the restaurant.

This is the reason Prince George only wears shorts

When Prince George steps out on Royal engagements, two things are certain. One, he almost always wears shorts. Two, he looks hella cute in them. But it turns out there's a reason behind the preppy prince's signature shorts and knee-high socks. Etiquette expert William Hanson told Harper's Bazaar U.K. that Prince George's look has ties to upper class aristocratic tradition. "It's a very English thing to dress a young boy in shorts," Hanson said. "Trousers are for older boys and men, whereas shorts on young boys is one of those silent class markers that we have in England. "Although times are (slowly) changing, a pair of trousers on a young boy is considered quite middle class – quite suburban. This woman became Instagram-famous overnight, but she doesn't exist. And here's the sad reason why

Louise Delage is an Instagram sensation.

She appeared on the scene on Aug. 1, posting sun-soaked images of her outfits, meals and wanderlust-inducing travels. Within the span of two short months, the 25-year-old Parisian’s picture-perfect lifestyle has gained her an impressive 19,000 followers.

If you use Instagram, you’ve probably seen or even followed bloggers and Instgrammers just like Delage. Bloggers whose profiles are filled with perfectly-composed brunch shots and an enviable French girl chic wardrobe. They’re constantly busy travelling the world, partying on yachts and simply “living their best life.”

Delage’s profile is no different, but unlike these bloggers Delage has one very distinct difference that sets her apart — she doesn’t exist.

Her entire feed was carefully curated for one specific (and sad) purpose. Can you spot what it is?

     Delage almost always has a drink in her hand.

That tiny fact went mostly unnoticed by followers until Paris-based ad agency BETC revealed the truth in “Delage’s” latest post on Sep. 22.

The entire Instagram persona was part of a campaign called “Like My Addiction” for Addict Aide which seeks to raise awareness of alcoholism among young people.

While it’s an interesting concept, it’s also a sobering reflection of how social media can become an outlet that glamorizes drinking, especially among youth.

According to organization, one out of every five deaths among young people annually is due to addiction. This becomes all the more difficult to see and prevent when seen through the lens of social media as something cool, desirable or simply the norm.

Through the lenses of Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat, an alcohol addiction can simply look like fun nights of drinking and dancing in Ibiza, weekends in with the girls and rosé and a few beers with the colleagues after work.

To raise awareness, BETC released a video revealing truth behind Louise Delage, accompanied with the message “it’s easy to miss the addiction of someone close” and urges people to think of what you’re really liking before double tapping on such images.
