Eric worked with his father, a real estate agent, fixing up and painting properties. He liked to skateboard, ride his bike and play basketball. Valerie Rivera and Phillip Malik lost their 20 year old son Eric Rivera on June 6, 2017, because he allegedly “fit the description” of someone as he was walking down the street. Officers Arturo Urrutia and Daniel Ramirez killed Eric and both have records of officer involved shootings. After Eric was shot, the officers’ car moved forward, struck him and pinned him underneath, according to LAPD. The family's attorney said that both officers jumped out of their patrol car without putting the vehicle in park when they encountered Eric. He tried to jump out of the way of the moving car when he was shot seven times, the family said. One of the officers jumped back into the car and attempted to stop the vehicle but was not able to.
