Butter // Erin Lange It took me a while to get into this and, admittedly, the time I finished it was not the first and only time I'd attempted to read it. Once you got past the sluggish introduction though, it was a humorous account how bullying can affect someone who stands out and how some deal with it differently to others. This made it a good eye-opener, in a sense, although I couldn't imagine anyone actually dealing with such events in the way that the story described. The overall theme was a little weird but it was what made me want to read it in the first place. Towards the end of the book I found myself rooting for the main character, but for a completely different thing you'd expect yourself to lean towards. It was a little cliché, with the stereotypical American high school patriarchy and the boy-meets-girl love interest but you could forgive this with the original storyline and unusual plot direction that it took. It was cliché but definitely not to the point of it becoming 'one of those' love stories. Once I'd gotten into it, it didn't take me long and I put it down with a smile on my face. I'm not sure I'd go to read it again but it will never be a book I regretted reading. I only gave it 3 stars because I did find it a little cliché in parts and the ways that the bullying was dealt with was not at all realistic, although the whole storyline as it is isn't something you'd see everyday-- or at all.
