This episode may seem inconsequential, but it’s actually important. Because of the events of this episode, Kyo doesn’t have to be tired anymore, meaning that he can show up or even accompany the kids when necessary now. Though, I’m just surprised that they gave focus to the Kinoko Gang of all characters. Really?
Regardless, I think that having the detail of birthing a Digimon with negative emotions births evil Digimon is nice! It’s like how Mimicmon from Episode 8 was born from the student’s desire to get rid of his competitors. The more negative a person’s emotions becomes, the more aggressive and evil the Digimon becomes. That’s also why other Digimon were antagonistic if they were with their Owners. It does make me wonder how this will affect Tomoro and Gekkomon later on since Tomoro has a glitchy e-pulse and it does affect Gekkomon when his emotions get out of control. Still, it was nice to see that the Kinoko Gang are just petty individuals, but they still have some decency as they all thought RedVegiemon was going too far. It shows that once negative emotions give birth to a Digimon, they cannot be stopped until they revert back to their baby forms.
Another Beatbreak lore that intrigues me is that even if a person gets a new Sapotama, the Digimon seems to be the same? The red Kinoko guy Shiitake got a new Sapotama, but his Digimon is RedVegiemon, who is the evolution of Chamblemon, as its shadow was seen before manifesting. This would mean that if members of Glowing Dawn were to lose their Digimon, they can birth the same one in another Sapotama…
This episode being a more Digimon-focused episode is really sweet! It’s nice to see the baby Digimon wanting to grow stronger without the need for an Owner and all on their own. I also like that this episode helps establish their personalities in a way—they’re all different. A lot of them are playful and mischievous, but Poyomon, in particular, is very timid. Fortunately, Pristimon’s words help muster courage. The fact that they all decided to pitch in to protect Tomoro and the main Digimon was really sweet! They definitely are learning a lot from big brother Gekkomon!
Though, my only gripe was that Pristimon and Chiropmon seem perfectly fine, but they didn’t bother to break free from their restraints. They weren’t as poisoned as Gekkomon was, so they could’ve easily freed themselves, but they didn’t. I swear, these two get sidelined so much… Regardless, there is finally a sneak peek of Reina’s past and the next episode might finally focus on her!
RedVegiemon is voiced by Eiji Takemoto, who voiced BanchoLeomon in Digimon Savers, Marsmon in Xros Wars, Locomon in Hunters and the Fujitsumon Leader in Ghost Game. Shiitake is voiced by Yusuke Numata, who voiced Bokomon and other Digimon in Ghost Game. The glasses member Shimeji is voiced by Yasuhiro Takato who has been in so many Digimon media as various minor Digimon. I guess the more ‘recent’ role he had in a Digimon media would be as Pumpmon in Ghost Game. The member who has his eyes covered, Eringi, is voiced by Yoshiyuki Kono who voiced Etemon in Xros Wars. It’s crazy how many Digimon veterans are in Beatbreak…and we’re only 15 episodes in.
Hopefully, the Kinoko Gang—now Nirinsou Defense Force—will stay loyal in the future. One should not mess with Kyo Sawashiro—he can and will throw hands as we saw in Episode 10. But yeah, everyone deserves a second chance. Hopefully, there will be more Nirinsou helpers in the future! Let me know your thoughts on the episode!
