Ficklet #1 (of Mod David’s)

Elvaid yawned, sitting on the bus as it drove along the highway. Getting up at 3am to head to a park seemed much too early for him but what did he know? He rubbed the strange texture on his energy drink can, it was too early for coffe. If the bus ride was anything like the earlier years, they’d stop and pick up the others on the way. It sucked that the Ro’Leahs lived so far away from the rest meaning that they had to get up earlier in the day. Elvaid scrolled absentmindedly on his phone, waiting for someone else to get up so he could bug them. Yeah, Olivia was there, but he knew if he bugged her she wouldn’t hesitate to dump her iced coffee on his head. Jack would also probably try to fight him. Olivia was also preoccupied with Jack sitting on her lap, so Elvaid gave the couple space. He took a sip of the drink that tasted like bubbly green apple jolly ranchers, which was a rather specific taste but nothing else came to his mind when he tasted the drink. Elvaid stifled a yawn, looking at the window as the bus pulled off of the highway. He was excited, don’t get him wrong. He adored the park and loved being a councillor there but his excitement was not getting him through the day as much as caffeine was.
He got a bit more lively when more people got on the bus- if that was because he was an extrovert or because he was putting up a façade was really anyone’s guess. His smile got a bit more genuine when Eris sat beside him.
“Shortcake! I missed you!” Elvaid laughs, leaning against the tiny girl.
“Aw, it’s been 3 weeks.” Eris chuckled, “is Sorrel on the bus yet?”
“Uh…” Elvaid glanced around the bus, “give or take a few more stops and he’ll show up.”
“I’m ditching you when he does.” Eris warns.
“Hell yeah girl, get some!” Elvaid laughs as she hit his arm lightly.
“It’s not like that you dumbass!”
“We all know you want to-“
“Elvaid!”
“-trade Pokémon cards.”
“…” Eris stared at Elvaid as if he just said the stupidest shit- and he did. In return he just grinned brightly, wiggling in his seat.
“Did you know the camp’s a pokestop?”
“Really?”
“Yeah! It’s weird.”
“You’re weird.”
“Correct.” Elvaid nods, sipping his energy drink. He stopped wiggling and instead leaned on Eris to see what she was doing on her phone.
“Stalking,” Elvaid hummed as soon as he saw she was on Instagram, “nice.”
He made small comments on people’s photos and on if Eris liked or didn’t like the pictures continued until Sorrel got onto the bus and Eris went to join the quiet boy. Elvaid figured Danae would get on the bus soon too as the vehicle in mention jolted back to life and moved along the road once more.
