I never expected to like this movie. Everyone I knew (with very few exceptions) had told me the book was awful. That it would offend me because it was badly written, and only trying to cash in on nostalgia. Now, I can’t attest to the book yet. I only just started reading it. The film though? I loved it. I loved basically everything about it. I’ve seen it twice already and it’s so sincere in it’s love for everything it references or homages. This movie is basically my childhood, but I realised there’s another reason I loved it so much. In a world where Hollywood reboots and remakes so much, trying so hard to cash in on our nostalgia, this is the one movie so far that does it right. It reminds me of Retrowave and Synthwave bands. Especially of @gunshipmusic Instead of just remaking something from that era, make something fresh and new that just reminds us of it, and you can’t go wrong. So now I’m reading the book, listening to the soundtrack, waiting for the bluray, playing with my Zemeckis (Rubiks) Cube and eventually plan on listening to @itswilwheaton read it. I never would have thought Ready Player One would mean so much to me, but it did!
