What are your thoughts about Newton's First?

oKAY so i don’t know if jonah intended this but it’s kind of a story that builds up with a twist and you start to uncover more of the story? like the first verse says “i don’t think i deserve love.” and because of the switching pov you don’t know what’s going on. who’s newton? what does that have to do with that? but when he says “what else are fathers for?” everything falls into place and you realize it’s a beautiful story about how everyone deserves love and giving people love and the relationship between a father and a son and it’s so good! The light instrumental in the background really gives it atmosphere, and i think it’s kind of an unusual pick for last song of the album but given after see the day it really helps wind the whole thing down. Things that end quietly and without a bang are underrated, you know? Another thing is the title. It’s kind of misleading I think, but in a good way. I’m sure I’m not the only one who thought of the laws of physics, but those aren’t included in the song at all. As far as I can tell, there isn’t even any significant symbolism relating to them. (though let me know if I’m wrong!) It was really a bold and cool choice to name it that, and not have it be about the obvious connection. One thing that really strikes me about it is that it’s the second Altogether song (that I can tell) to include or be about a good father/child relationship and you don’t hear a lot of those I think. Anyway Newton’s First is absolutely beautiful and clever in more ways than one and i love it.

2. What song is dangerous to drive to because you might speed?

If I had to pick one off the top of my head, I’d go with Eucharist by Straight Line Stitch. The song itself has kind of generic rock/punk vibe, but I’ve listened to it a lot at like 3am ‘cause it’s The Vibe I need (also Charise knows this, but I don’t drive, so I’m treating this as a hypothetical)

Growing up, I had a lot of theater friends, but I think I was the only one with perfect pitch. Since I’m a STEM major, I now use it to make weirdly nice piano arrangements for stupid songs. I also tutored most of my irl friends in chemistry when we were in high school so there’s that.
