Error code 174, also known as the “The file system does not support atomic changes to the lock type” error, is assigned the value of 0xAE and the message ERROR_ATOMIC_LOCKS_NOT_SUPPORTED. This error occurs when changes being implemented by atomic operations are detected and aborted by a lock. When the system is unchanged, it slows down and aborts processes being run by the user. This error can be fixed by switching to a different type of file system for the memory device of the user. Changing the lock type to one that allows atomic changes is also solution this error.
