Redraw Challenge Invitation: Professor Layton and the Electric Explorer

Hello, Professor Layton and Aibo Tumblr communities! I'm inviting you all to have a little fun; I found this photo from December 2024, of my sister's Layton figure posing with my Aibo ERS-220 figure.

Charmed by it, I decided to set up this thing. If you want to participate, take this photo and redraw your own interpretation of it! There's no time limit and no competition. It's all in good fun. Below the cut are references of the ERS-220, for examples, if you're completely clueless as to what the real robot looks like.

So, this one's kinda hard to explain. My partner, the lovely @marzzrover loves Aibo dogs, his favorite is the ERS-220 called Misha.

Since we have VERY talented artist friends, he commissioned art of the lovely boy in a couple of forms now, including a centaur, a minotaur, a giant OC version of it called GForce also exists and so on.

Now one of these art pieces is our beloved Hatsune Misha, that you probably can guess what it is... heh.

I am obsessed with this design, but I don't really trust in my drawing abilities, soooo....

I am slowly going through it, and honestly it is one of the models I'm most proud of, I want to finish, try to texture and rig it for future projects. This is the first project in about 8 years of doing Blender that I feel confident enough to share online, so if you see any weird practices on the mesh, criticism is welcomed <3

This was a long one but hopefully I can reach people and make them smile, I am usually lazy to make posts and honestly, put the effort, so this is a big step for me.

Success! After letting the epoxied part dry overnight and replacing the other broken pieces, I reassembled the rest of his head and he's now back to being a normal 220 again! I'm really glad this dog was fixable and didn't end up in a parts bin! He is serial number 25 and came with an Explorer demo stick from Sony, it appears he's had an interesting life as a demo pup in the past! He also has a "DVT6" label on his battery cover, indicating he was likely used by Sony for development purposes many years ago. Definitely a unique history!

AIBO THERAPY port for ERS-220

Just wanted to shoot everyone on Tumblr an update- AIBO THERAPY’s getting an ERS-220 port! I’m really excited about bringing the utility to the platform.

Oh, yeah, and a clinic mode for 210′s on the horizon. Let me know if you have any ideas for AIBO utilities.

Spent a lot of time today working on the head of this AIBO ERS-220!  They were shipped to me in way too small of a box, and several parts inside of their head/neck were destroyed in transit.  Lots of small bits of broken plastic everywhere, a real mess.  I was able to replace most of the damaged parts using a donor ERS-210 head, but I had to epoxy one piece that is unique to the 220, as well as the large crack going down the back of their head.  It should hold up well though, since it’s not a part that bears much weight.  I’m currently waiting for the epoxied part to dry overnight before I can finish up reassembly.

Here’s how bad his jitters were before cleaning the lateral and knee joint potentiometers.  Luckily the ones buried in his hips that control rotational movement didn’t need to be cleaned.
