Helga Vlahović had a rich history with the Eurovision Song Contest. Her English language skills allowed her to be the jury spokesperson for Yugoslavia in 1974 and 1981. In 1994, she was the spokesperson for Croatia. She also hosted the 1990 contest.

The reason the group Bucks Fizz, winners of the 1981 contest, did their famous skirt tear-away gag was because the women in the group couldn't agree on the length of skirt they wanted to wear. Jay Aston wanted to wear a short skirt, and Cheryl Baker wanted a long one, so Baker remarked "oh for goodness sake, let’s just have both," and that inspired their choreographer to develop the gag.
