Something Really Cool Happened!
Normally on my Eurovision blog, I don't really talk about the other songs released by competing artists unless they're a returning artist and their previous song holds relevance, or it's an artist I've heard of or am getting a first impression of. Tonight, I make an exception.
If you know (or don't), let me refresh some memories. My favorite Latvian entries were "Aijā" by Sudden Lights from last year and "Love Injected" by Aminata from 2015. Okay. Now. What if they did a song together? Because that's what happened.
It's called "Ataust rīts" and it's really good! Feel free to give it a listen!
So a few recent things into one post because I've just moved to Iasi and not feeling that great right now.
- Polina Gagarina is showing her true colors by performing in support of the russian troops at the celebration of the Crimean Annexations. The whole "everybody hates me because I'm russian, but I just want peace in the world"/"I'm russian and I don't understand why can't we be friends with everyone" was a great farce during 2015 Eurovision that seems to be just as false as I believed it to be. We see this being reused by a lot of russians to throw some guilt off themselves.
-My brain finally decided to remind me why I have such a hard response to "but the russian people didn't want this". Basically, after the annexation of Crimea, the favorite phrase of every russia has been "крым наш" (Crimea is ours). So, if russia used the same tactics to slowly annex the entirety of ukraine they would have been ok with it.
-If I ever hear anything again about the "bio labs in Ukraine" I'm throwing hands. Recently some not really known politician in Moldova gave an interview to some russian channel and said something along the lines of "The USA secretary that visited Moldova, came here to bring biosamples from the Ukrainian labs to the Moldavian ones" If this doesn't confirm that it's some idiotic russian propaganda then I don't know what is.
And the last thing: Ukraine proving to everyone just how much of a stronghold they are, because everyone believed they would be occupied within 48h, is honestly a dream I didn't know I had, but somehow became reality.
So I was bored some days ago and said “hey why not do this thing but with some of my fave esc winners?” Which one are you?
