This Fandom Sometimes...

Can everyone just stop acting like they're super clever for coming up with this stupid ship name Eskabo. It's not even new! It's been floating around for months!

If everyone starts using Eskabo, then it's going to spread and Korranation and Nick are going to put out shit like "What's better: Bosami or Eskabo?" Some of you are probably thinking, "Well what's wrong with that?"

You see, the thing is...

Eskabo is racist.

I don't care how cute you think it is. It's a pun on the word Eskimo meant to describe a ship involving an inuit inspired character. That's like having a ship with a Native American character and calling it Indian. I mean c'mon. Really?

Eskimo is considered derogatory today because it lumps various cultures into one name, erasing their individual identity. And the name Eskimo itself was given by non-Inuit people and was said to mean "eater of raw meat." You don't have to think very hard to realize how screwed up that is. What if some alien's came down on earth and just started calling us something based on a snap judgment, like "ass sitters" or "drinker of starbucks" or "beliebers." You'd probably be pissed.

And what's this defense that, oh, my pun on Eskimo's not derogatory because I'm not using it with racist intent! No. Just because you don't intend for something not to happen doesn't stop it from happening. Paula Dean didn't mean to be racist when she wanted that cotton plantation themed wedding, complete with servers dressed as black slaves, but she sure offended an ass load of people anyway.

I can't believe this fandom right now. The Canadian government literally classifies Eskimo as a racial slur. It is politically incorrect in the most literal sense. And yet, people are saying that because America doesn't recognize Eskimo as racist, we should use it any way. Yeah, well America's entertainment sweetheart Disney just made a movie where an insane, warrior, witch doctoring, stereotypical as all hell Native American is played by a white actor wearing a bird on his head. I love my country, but I don't think America should be the end-all decider of what is or is not racist. Especially when it comes to a slur that relevant to someone else's history.

If you want a ship name with some stupid pun you can gush about, just call it Eskalin. Then you can make a thousand gif. sets with the caption "Well this is Eskalatin' quickly!"
