Peasants worked on the land for the lord of the manor, then worked their own land, then did basic crafting: leatherwork, ironwork, pottery, and weaving, mostly for home consumption. Maybe he could be a hunter or woodcutter?
This is a great reminder, thank you! Bear with me while I think out loud :P
So we have a second son of the peasant class. He’s grown up basically collecting raw goods for his mother and brother to work. He’s illiterate and has no real skills to speak of. He’ll ideally need to move out on his own now that he’s coming of age, but he’ll only get a small share of the household funds if he does which at this point could be as little as §20. In order for him to work the land he’d have to have property of his own which he won’t be able to buy yet OR I’d need to create a communal working community, i.e. a work farm or maybe a mine...
I like the idea of a mine, but I’m not aware of any crafting stations that can be used to process the raw materials into anything useful yet, so I don’t really want to make that a priority.
Some great ideas in there. It seems like a lot of people move the spares out to a lot to save money of their own before deciding what profession to have them follow, but in this case, I think I like the idea of letting the spare remain in the house until the heir marries.
I’ll give Henry an Investment safe (or equivalent) and allow him to start saving money and gaining skill now. I think I’d really like him to stay on the river, as I imagine the riverfolk are a tight-knit community out there on their own. Of course there will always be exceptions (like weirdo Josef lol) but Henry is quite fond of Nature and the water so I think having him follow in a profession around the river will make him happy.
I really do need to figure out an apprenticeship system though...
Here it is - a really, really, REALLY long replies post for all of the Bluewater posts I’ve done so far. Thank you so much for all the responses to the story. I’ve loved seeing them. Look under the cut for a LOT of replies.
@holleyberry, @penig, @anotherplumbob Abby is actually pregnant in-game, she wasn’t showing at the time I shot the pictures. I have custom versions of my pregnancy defaults in too, and giving Abby the fat state + the outfit meant I could have her in the color I wanted. Malcolm definitely intends to sue for full custody.
@holleyberry - Other than one wavering moment, I don’t think Malcolm is going to listen to her again.
@dunne-ias, your suggestions has officially been taken into consideration.
@katrisims, I’m curious to see where it goes too!
@penig, @holleyberry, @katrisims, @anotherplumbob, and @youdonelostyourmind - The revelation hit Malcolm pretty hard. I think he’d probably imagined this scene happening differently with Abby before she showed her true colors. But, as we saw, he did decide not to move her in.
@anotherplumbob, @katrisims, @penig - Telling Abby off was a big release for Malcolm, I think. He finally got everything off his chest. Abby definitely wasn’t expecting it. Remember when she mentioned that he doesn’t have the temper to match his eyebrows? She’d never seen him this mad before, and she was pretty shocked by his reaction.
I think we are going to see Malcolm building up a few more walls for himself after the whole Abby scandal. He doesn’t want to be hurt again, and he doesn’t want to be manipulated. I don’t think he’ll be soured for life, but he’s definitely a lot more cautious about relationships.
@anotherplumbob - Aww, thanks! I’m glad you like my version of Malcolm. I think he does tend to be portrayed as the ruthless businessman. I think this version of him could become that version - especially after what happened with Abby - but at the moment, he’s not quite there.
@penig - Fleming is pleased. He’s very pleased. He was surprised that Malcolm would choose this, though. Malcolm had been trying to live up to the old rules of the legacy up to this point, and if Fleming were in his place, he wouldn’t give up three generations of hard work and fortune-building. But the firm has all the money now, so Fleming is quite happy that Malcolm chose this route. It means Fleming doesn’t have to do anything sneaky.
@dunne-ias - Ha ha ha ha ha! Patience, my friend. We will get there.
@anotherplumbob - Oh, I think she was. ;-)
@dunne-ias - That’s a big jump. Marry her after one hug?
@penig - She would not have minded at all. :)
@anotherplumbob - It’s going to be a change for him for sure. Of course, in game he has the skills to start at Vice President in the Business career, so he’s probably got a corner office, but in the story he’s in a cubicle. I think having Charlotte just across the way will be a nice perk, though. ;)
@dunne-ias - Let’s see how dinner goes first.
@esmeiolanthe - I think the baby mama drama will indeed rear its ugly head some time soon.
esotheria-sims replied to your post “Can you do maargareth parallel for men :) ??”
I think Lunacress made a FtM mesh, try looking through their DW. :)
I went through their downloads, but I’ve only found a female one. Thanks for the suggestion though :)
esmeiolanthe answered your question “Question!”
To another playable sim? Just have the business owner become friends with the sim you want to own the business and then choose "Propose...> Transfer Lot Ownership"
Yes, I thought it would be, but the option wasn’t there. Google said it’s only an option between sims who live on the same lot, that’s why I was asking around :)
quill-of-thoth answered your question “Question!”
You could temporarily move somebody in via the summon shrub, do it, save to neighborhood, move them back to original lot via summon shrub?
I wanted to avoid that moving process, but I think I’ll have to do this... Thank you :)
Replies under the cut for @esmeiolanthe, @sweetpea928, @didilysims, @katrisims, and @penig.
I’m keeping an eye on the neighborhood in case that glitchiness was a sign of VBTs to come. I haven’t noticed anything else really bad recently. (There was some graphical glitching in the Jacquet round, but that could have been CC...I don’t know...) In the meantime, more kitties is always good. :D Thanks for the official ruling!
Malcolm’s luck will turn around...eventually. I think. I haven’t actually played any of Round 3 yet, but I have plans. ;)
Yeah, let’s go with that. He’s practicing his robot voice. (I think Robert is part robot, actually. I’m not sure a Servo programmed by him will be all that different from him, except in looks.)
He should be running, yes. These women eat drama for lunch. Any solution they come up with won’t be to his liking. (As we saw.)
Yep! You hit the nail on the head. :D
Exactly! *wink wink* This is going to go over great! :D

Which day next week? Will it get me out of mandatory overtime? :P (I've survived four supposed apocalypses, I think...)
According to this article (which is from a terrible English tabloid, never trust the tabloids!), the world is going end between the 22nd (Tuesday) and the 28th (the following Monday).

Welcome back! Hafiseazale has a lot of recolours of almost everything and iCad's woods are useful for build stuff especially. I still use plenty of old Piggi recolours too...link in a bit!
Ooooh Piggi Stuff! I love Piggi’s recolours! I thought about them actually but I had no idea if there were any links still up, so thank you so much for the links! :D
I already had Hafiseazale on my list but more for her conversions and the CEP stuff, I guess I’ll have to add recolours to that list! ;)

Seconding Michelle's recolors. Some at MTS, some at Leefish, some both places.

Challenge: An Officially Wacky Boolprop Challenge
Themes: Gilbert & Sullivan
Warnings: Generally quite light, with some sim-swearing and some artsy-fartsy writing in the supplemental short features. The artsy-farsty writing is clearly labeled for easy avoidance.
Description: It’s the story that puts the “Savoy” in “Wacky”! This challenge has actual Plot, or rather Plots – eight of them, to be exact, and all of them ripped off wholesale from loving homages to the topsy-turvy Victorian operettas of Gilbert & Sullivan. There are childhood betrothals, disguises, secret identities, fairies, performance artists, vampires both sparkly and not-sparkly, truly noble noses, aliens, and gangsters! (Okay, one gangster.) Plus a host of special features, behind-the-scenes vignettes, video clips, trivia, and Swimsuit Bowling Night.
