1) When did you meet your whumper for the first time? How was it like?
v big blast.....woah
:D omg..... asks...... :D
1) When did you meet your whumper for the first time? How was it like?
They stop for a moment, trying to bring back the memory.
"It was around six years ago," they say. "I--my former handler had just passed away." There is a pause. You're not sure of what it means. Before you can think much of it, it's already resumed: "She was imposing. But I guess I didn't really have any stronger impression at first."
5) Have you ever been interrogated? For what reason? Were you tortured there?
You almost catch an aborted sigh.
"Just the usual."
7) Have you ever planned your escape? If so, do you think it's gonna work? (We won't tell anyone)
That gets it to stare blanky at you. You begin to second-guess if asking this one was a good idea.
"Never," she lies. A frown takes over its face. "Abandoning your family is abandoning yourself."
8) How would you describe your whumper?
It bites its lip. "Competent."
You wait, thinking she'll go on. Multiple descriptions seem to cross over her mind - scary, hot-headed, difficult to please, terrifying, maybe? - but she doesn't.
9) How strict your whumper has been with you?
"Strict enough," she answers. Then, after a pause, "Maybe not enough. She follows the regulations as intended," it's quick to add, as if it doesn't want you to think poorly of the handler.
10) At which points are you most scared of your whumper?
There is a pause. Espa's eyes go a little vacant. "When I mess up."
15) Have you ever tried asking anyone for help? If so, how did they react?
"It doesn't work like that," it answers instead, sounding the slightest bit annoyed. Exasperated. As much as Espa can be, anyways. "It- It doesn't work like that."
16) Do you hide from your whumper? Does it help? How long it takes for them to find you?
You catch a movement. It's as if she's clenching her jaw. "No. There's no use. It's disrespectful. She also wants it to get over with," they sigh. "It's better not to keep her waiting."
21) Does your whumper provide you with any things of entertainment to do in your spare time?
They seem a little uncomfortable at the question. "There's no need."
35) If you were given an opportunity to escape, what would you do? Where would you run to?
Espa shoots you a glare. It doesn't answer.
(ooc: stares at her like this 0_0)
40) Does your whumper listen to your pleads, complaints or requests? What would you never ask them for even if you absolutely needed?
It seems to take them aback. "No. Yes," she corrects. "I'm supposed to report when I'm compromised," it looks away. "She doesn't need to be bothered with anything else."
43) Are you afraid to die?
The pause is longer this time. "You're supposed to."
46) If you could become an animal, which one would you choose? Why?
They blink. "A dog?"
49) Tell everything you've ever wanted to say to your whumper (we won't tell anyone!)
Something that seems to be a groan crosses their features, suppressed before long. "There's nothing," it insists. "She is- she is a little bit prone to escalating. It's difficult to keep passerbies from driving her insane." It bites her lip. "Ms. Ann is much more reasonable than many handlers. It's nothing."
She doesn't tell you who the "many handlers" are.
50) Share one of your happiest moment of freedom for us!
Her face softens in surprise. They look down. The reply takes a while to come.
"With Ciça, she-" it bites its lip. Something's changed in its face. You're not quite sure of what it is. "She gave me cake, once. We've cooked together." Two separate instances. She doesn't seem like she wants to choose. A ghost of a smile shows up. "I'm not sure. Sorry."
See idk if you’ve posted abt this before (I just went thru nearly all the posts on espa’s worldbuilding and lore) but I’m curious about how they feel about their gender identity and when she began using those pronouns (is it just me or does that sound lowk queerphobic 🥀)
(I SAW <3 IM OVERJOYED RN)
i haven't! espa's relationship with their gender is a bit. odd? it's nothing special. but like
you could call her cisgender. and a girl. and truth be told that's not wrong. but they're a little bit detached from the notion
'coz you see. espa wasn't raised as a girl. it was raised as a weapon
(i like to say they're isogender :) not quite cis but not exactly trans either)
if we were talking in more specific microlabels. if espa knew about them and had to do some introspection to decide a term. it'd be cogender (<- a multigender label sort of like bigender but the genders are a little more interwoven), both nonbinary and a girl. but espa barely knows what "microlabel" is so
pronouns wise: as we see in the escravos de jo drabble :) back then. at least for a while. espa was using solely it/its. when it was even younger, it used she/her, because that was all it knew, but from a while on it was just 'it'
this is partially due to their first handler. i've mentioned cláudio a few times even though i didn't say much about him yet, but he was the guy that espa was assigned to before ann. he was the first to call espa an it. on a daily basis.
it wasn't exactly with the most progressive intent lmao. so yeah. it stuck. even amongst handlers thats a bit uncommon (ann, for example, calls espa a "she" and so do most of them) but he was their primary handler for a while so i think it really shaped how they view themself
once it changed handlers they gradually shifted towards the they/it/she we have today, though
despite that, i don't think the it/its comes solely from a dehumanizing and self-depreciating place for her. to say it has nothing to do with the dehumanization would be a lie, but it goes beyond that. they do genuinely appreciate these pronouns. that first... less-than-ideal situation was their first exposure to them, and maybe espa wouldn't use it/its today if it wasn't by that (maybe they would!), but it does genuinely like them. if espa was a little bit more aware of how fucked up its life is, then maybe it'd feel a bit self-counscious about it, but as things currently are, it's just happy with their three little pronouns
the 'they' came more naturally tho, i think. meeting people. having a vague understanding of nonbinary people from outside. rare instances where someone couldn't gauge its gender and called it a "they" which felt weirdly euphoric. so that's how we get to this :)
so yeah! espa is a girl. but not in a very cisgender way. they're also nonbinary, and having grown up as a 'weapon' shaped a lot of how they view themself. so it's a bit of a mix
for Espa (and anyone else you want to answer with).

17. What is the worst punishment you've received?
Espa's focus turns inwards for a while, as they try to catalogue something as the worst. It's painful to dig too deep. It takes a deep breath before settling on, "Back with my old handler." Her gaze lowers down a bit. "Mr. Cláudio had to tie me up outside once. It was hot."
26. Do you like yourself?
The weapon blinks, the slightest frown. "I apologize," they say. "I'm not sure I understand the question."
(It's complicated. It doesn't see what is it there to like or dislike, but Espa is constantly feeling worthless and insufficient, so they'd definitely "like" it if they were "better".)
37. Who do you trust the most right now?
A fond expression that almost passes for a smile lines their face. It's subtle. Soft. "My handlers," they lie, without effort. It's almost rehearsed, even as their mind strays to someone else, disconnected from their words. A brother. "It is thanks to the ones who trained me and keep me in line that I am able to serve well.
how come every single handler is soo onboard with like. child torture and human trafficking like, do none of them feel any regret? how did the dove made them all so loyal if theyre all just. normal-passing people🤔 not as critism of course im just curious its v valid if the answer is rule of cool lolz.
but like...can there be reluctant or conflicted whumpers on it 👁️👁️ feared whumperees?? (besides the weapons of course)
gonna cop-out with the rule of cool card thank you ❤🌹
i do think its kind of family business for some. i havent rlly fleshed out ann's background but in my mind its sort of like that too. the dove's been around for a while now
What would happen if all your ocs from different projects met eachother
*makes some sort of excited noise* okay so i'll stick to evangeline's lil bubble, espada + key (i would do the whole penalty cast but this is long and i know you like key) because thats what ive talked about more:
You know Eliah? Ev's despicable evil sister/the human rights violator/evil ceo? Espa would be intimidated. They're good at telling when people hold positions of power and are quick to fall into a subservient, unobtrusive behavior. Even if they don't notice it they'll treat her like a handler. Like one of the higher-up ones. Eliah would be mildly pleased. It's not bad when someone is so proactive to fulfull your reauests and suggestions, she thinks. Plus, the kid is polite. Not bad company. Probably useful. She approves
(Evangeline would think Espa is weird. Espa would not think much of Evangeline at all.)
Sabre would be insantly shitting scared of Eliah also. She IS very imposing. Like Espa he is very stiff and quick to obey but he's much more freaked out about it than they are. He doesn't want to mess it up (he always messes it up). Eliah kind of picks up on his nervousism but doesn't comment. She likes it, honestly. It's good when people are scared of her. They should be.
Moving on: Key and Espa would be a little funny. Key is falling back on hospitality and offering it a seat and a room and a drink and Espa doesn't want to be stubborn and refuse but people don't give it nice things and it feels weird in accepting. Both of their comfort zones/default behavior is surrounded by a lot of fawning and servicing others and being unobtrusive but Key can be much more assertive about it than Espa is; they are a little outnumbered and end up accepting the tea. Key doesn't dislike them, but they are wary. They like reading people to get an assessment of if they should be cautious/scared/resigned/at ease and Espa is really fucking difficult to read. She is very polite but also quiet and doesn't give much of an impression to be honest and Key is not sure of how to mentally label her. So, they are not opposed to having her as a guest again, but wether they feel good or bad about her is still up in the air. Espa does not open its game and that makes Key uneasy. It does not realize this. It just doesn't want to cause trouble.
If we were in Espa's zone, however; they will still try to respect their percieved ~authority~, but in an emmergency/hazardous situation, they will hold their ground and take steps to efficiently take care of the situation and get all relevant parties to safety. Depending on the amount of force/aggression used, Key is slightly stressed. People who are strong enough to hurt you are always going to do it, sooner or later. Espa picks up on the change and deflates. They sink down on themself further and try to not be scary. It works, a bit. Key is only slightly wary instead of seeing her as a potential/impending threat. If there was no gory show of violence, though, Key becomes much more fond of their whole presence. Still unsure about how to categorize her; but it is clearly trustworthy and both able and willing to help. They are more than welcome to come another time. Key won't be displeased about it
Also, if it were Ann with Key instead, they would immediately clock her as an obnoxious bastard and just quietly serve her the drinks and do their job without as much as an expression. They do not like her and although you can't say they aren't being gracious and helpful it is a little clear that they are sort of looking down on her. They are cautious, but they aren't fully afraid. They will not sabotage her or speak ill of her or even waste brainpower wishing she'd just be gone alrrady and will just deal with it in their little Key way but they secretly think she is a little pathetic. Grown ass woman. They will perfectly serve the tea and biscuits and clean her water spill without a second thought. It is with an air of condescence that Ann might only slightly pick up on but can not do anything about. Even she knows that there is nothing concrete to complain about aside from faint vibes. She crosses her arms; it's not even her servant. She just has to accept the tea and hope they'll make a mistake she can complain about. They never do.
Key with Eliah would fall into a very comfortable dynamic for the both of them. Eliah likes people who listen to her and are efficient; Key likes having clear instructions and expectations to fulfill. This is a familiar situation for all parties and none will dislike it. Eliah is not unreasonable or unpleasant and Key can deal with that.
Key would find Evangeline a little cute but it would be a little similar. They end up being a little more friendly towards kids, subcounsciously, but their general demeanor doesnt change much. Ev is slightly intimitated but thinks they are cool.
Bonus - Ann + Eliah: Ann loses. It is not a conpetition but she does either way. Eliah knows to keep her cool. Ann is smart and will know she can't just do whatever she wants like usual; it's like being on a meeting with an important person or talking to a superior. She is very sulky about this. Eliah knows it. She is very condescending about it. It infuriates the shit out of Ann. I cheer from the sidelines.
Bonus bonus - Juste would freak the shit out of Key. They are used to people who think they hold all the power, wether thats true or not, but all the fear they mightve had about Ann or Eli is concentrated on him. His general demeanor (clearly predatory smile and way too comfortable and laid back) rings more alarm bells in their head than any of the other two could. This is based on past experiences and pattern recognition; if they fail with people like Eliah, they will get hurt. If not, everything is fine. With people like Juste? They don't even need to fail. The likes if him don't need to wait for a punishment to (mentally, metaphorically) destroy them. He is just creepy. They'd much rather him be regular scary and aggressive than this. They are probably shaking. Juste realizes this and it does not help the situation overall. He is amused. He thinks they are doing well. That's probably part of the problem.
This took me a while to get to sdfghjk but thank you so much for the ask :) <3 going to answer for Espa + Sabre
24. What makes them relaxed?
Espa - Namely, not being under the eyes of any handler. They feel most at ease when they're not being watched by people who will use any mistake as an excuse for punishment. But also going outside! They're stuck indoors much of the time when they're not sent in a mission, so seeing the sky and trees and feeling a breeze is usually very helpful. That and their cape; it's a favorite for a reason. Espa is kind of touch-averse so the comfort someone else might get from a gentle hug just makes it really tense. A simpler weight like a blanket or the aforementioned cape works better for her! :) It makes it feel safe. Sheltered.
Also being at Ciça's house it's very nice in there. Ticks basically all those boxes + they get nice food.
Sabre - Being with his friends. Espa, mostly. He doesn't like being too out of sight re: his own handler, because he's been punished for it in the past. When he's assigned to the same place as some of his best friends, tho, it gives him some solace :) He knows they have his back + it's a distraction from the ever-present doom and pain. He also likes (as Espa, now that I think of it) being praised. If he's done a good job, if he's made his handler proud, that means he's in the clear. For now. Mr. Juste might even give him a treat and everything.
25. What makes them nervous?
Espa - Failure. Also when people's voices are too loud and intense. Being caught in a moment of vulnerability is also another one. Whenever someone it cares about does something that could put them in danger too.
Sabre - Being in line for too long, oddly. Weapons like the both of them are always being punished for the tiniest slips, but his handler in particular is a little bit more sadistic and will just release it all at once if he couldn't hurt him for a while. Sabre knows that unless he keeps him appeased with small, harmless and semi-constant infractions to give him an excuse to punish him, it will be much, much worse when he makes an honest mistake. Being seen when he's crying also. And also large bodies of water. The weapons aren't usually taught to swim unless they're routinely assigned to a more coastal area, so that's not a skill he possesses, and he's had his fair share of drowning-based torture and waterboarding for a lifetime. Not being able to breathe also sends him into sheer panic; so that kind of punishment hits him right where it hurts. So he isn't very fond of lakes and the sea and deep pools. He's always on edge waiting for someone to push him into it.
28. Do they have a non-fighting related skill, such as writing, doing math, drawing or speaking another language? Was it taught to them? Did they learn it themselves?
Both Espa and Sabre can play chess! Sabre is not very good at it but he knows the rules and they were probably taught by an older sibling as a pasttime. They also know some basic origami (like the crane), because the Dove believes it aids in their training, to develop fine motor skills. Plus it's a little bit simbolic.
Espa in particular recently learned how to do dishes and fold laundry! Neither of them know how to read, cook anything besides the very basics in order to survive, write or even read analog clocks. They're not allowed a lot of hobbies.
Espa - lowkey hates bugs keep roaches and flies away from her they are in danger. Not so pissy about butterflies and sometimes spiders but it also despises house moths with a burning passion. They have very little regard for life in general and bugs remind them of past missions in dingy, dirty settlements where nothing was ever clean and they just had to put up with it and also of their pre-weapon days where their quarters were barely spared any hygiene. Insects and dingy rooms and mould and the like awake those memories in them and they were not pleasant times. She doesn't realize this and just kills every bug in sight at a blink and if you asked her she'd just say "they're annoying."
Ciça - more normal. She isn't particularly a bug lover but she'll avoid killing them off whenever possible and will carefully put roaches outside when they get in. She is not particularly fond of mosquitos but she prefers repellents to rackets when dealing with them
Sabre - couldn't care less. He also dislikes mosquitoes and has no qualms about stomping on bugs but isn't particularly bothered by them either. If he sees a cockroack he won't kill it or take it out as far as he's concerned it's none of his business.
Juste - used to put fire at ant nests for fun as a kid
Ann - actually pretty chill about them. Won't go out of her way to keep them alive but recognizes you can't just expect them to vanish off the face of the earth. She will get rid of them when most convenient and can ignore them when necessary but won't make much of a fuss either way
HONORABLE MENTION: Radaça (one of ciça's grand-nieces) - really likes insects and bugs and finds them very cool and pretty. Probably has beetle charms on her phone case and bug doodles on the pages of her diary. She was obsessed with them at around 8 or 9 and it still sticks with her
Honorable honorable mention since you like them :) Key - is a little obsessed with cleanliness and perfection so they get a little uneasy at having roaches and spiders and stuff on the corners of the manor. It feels as if theyre failing at something. Will get rid of them and soak the spot with repellent and a harsh scrub as soon as they come across any. Outside of that scenario can actually appreciate them in nature. They find bugs a little cute.
If they find one indoors at another person's house they Will judge you. And think you are imcopetent. They won't vocalize that tho
