esme knew she was going to die for her mission. she knew that even if she made her broadcast after 7:00 am, they would take her out, because that was the point she was making ---- the nffa doesn’t care about the time constraints, they don’t care what’s legal when; they care about protecting the truth and silencing everyone who could potentially expose it. at least with esme dead, she couldn’t keep fighting it, even if her death was broadcasted after the sirens --- they would find a way to spin it like the always do. she knew they wouldn’t let her go, especially once she had decided to make herself a sitting duck. but that didn’t matter to her, what mattered was using her final moments to tell everyone the truth.

she went into this with no regrets for the way she chose to live her final moments --- because if she died, then at least her death means something. she saw the nffa try to brush aside dr. adams and all her studies, but esme wouldn’t let their deaths be for nothing.

the only thing she does regret is that the three of the people closest to her, the three people who chose to help her when they didn’t have to / when she felt she had inadvertently forced them to do so, died for this too. ( vivian survives, but esme doesn’t know that ---- she went into the broadcasts room believing she had died when she took a bullet for esme. ) it was supposed to just be her. she was putting vivian in so much danger by abusing her job, the same way she had abused hers and got herself in this mess, and she knew the stakes were high / that vivian could turn into a victim of theirs too, just as she had, and that always scared her. skye’s death may not have been directly connected to esme’s mission, but it happened because she was trying to get her there.

and then there’s ryan, the man she had fallen in love with because he helped her get here, supported her and constantly reminded her that this was worth it / justified, and made her see everything in a different light when she desperately needed it ---- she didn’t want him to be there, because she knew what that would mean for him. in her gut, she knew he would show anyway, because that’s the kind of person he is ( just like her, because they’re so similar in that way. )

skye, vivian ( presumed ), and ryan all died for her cause first. she watched them die trying to help her speak her truth, stopping at nothing to ensure she could do just that. darren wasn’t there, but with the nffa already caught onto him, she could only assume that his life was in danger too. it all only fueled the anger & the sadness that was behind everything she said in the broadcast. she knew she was about to die, and though they weren’t supposed to die too, it’s because of their sacrifices for her / this cause / the truth that she was able to get it out there.
