I am so ready to live. I want to love someone so much it feels like my chest is on fire. I want to be so happy my mouth hurts from smiling and my eyes look like fireworks on New Year’s, bright enough to light up a whole city. Western philosophy is a bunch of pretentious concepts created by mainly white men who don’t understand my situation, much less this generation, but to hell with it. Let’s philosophize everything. Tell me about what you want; what keeps you up at night, what makes your skin boil? Tell me about all of it and I’ll listen.

I want to run until I can’t breathe and hum my songs in front of stadiums of people and write until my hands bleed ink. I want to feel free for once. Let’s get drunk on a balcony in an exotic city, sneaking in kisses between drinks of golden champagne while the moon sleeps above us. Let’s dance on top of cars at sunset. Let’s stay up so late that starlight tumbles from our lips, silvery words spilling from our mouths. 

I am so ready to live. What am I waiting for?

Instead of focusing on those you don’t even know how you feel about, focus on the ones you do know how you feel about; the ones who make you hot chocolate with whipped cream and sprinkles and bundles you up in blankets to watch anything with you when it’s one of the bad days or when you’re sick. Focus on the people in your life who give you so much joy; others can see sunbeams shining from your laugh lines when they’re around.  Focus on the ones who stay even when it’s raining and storming and there’s no harbor in view, just cold dark nights with nothing to offer each other in return except company. Forget the ones who want you but don’t want to put in the effort to keep you. You’re better off without them. They have offered you a puddle when you deserve the ocean. They have offered you a cloud when you deserve the sky. They have offered you what is easy, convenient. They do not understand that you are not easy or convenient. You are the crash of the waves and the spin of the planets. You are complicated and confusing but everyone is a little screwed up somehow.  Most importantly, you’re a person that can do so much better than what they could ever offer you. I promise you’ll be fine.
