1967 #Fender #Esquire spotted at @thetwelfthfret #Toronto back in 2018. . I know some of you are going to swipe to the second shot and say "hold the phone DeeBeeUs™(if that is your real name!), that Esquire has the Fender 'spaghetti' logo...how can it possibly be a '67? Shouldn't every Fender have had a gold 'transition' logo (or possibly even an early example of a CBS black logo) by 1967? I thought they phased out the spaghetti logo by 1966?? What gives??) . Well, firstly let me just commend you on your powers of observation...and your knowledge of Fender logo usage chronology! Secondly though, let me assure you I had the very same question...but the experts at @thetwelfthfret assured me that the spaghetti logo persisted on the Esquire model well into 1967. Why? Probably for two reasons: 1) they made fewer Esquires than Telecasters , and 2) Fender never threw anything away! This meant that long after supplies of #Telecaster spaghetti decals had depleted and they had moved on to the "transition" decals on Teles, they still had a supply of old Esquire spaghetti decals. And since they never threw anything away (I mean who cares about updated branding and making sure your product line has a consistent look and feel on the headstock?) they used these old decals until they ran out...which took roughly two extra years!
