Self-Slavery to the Self :
my growing concerns with how self-help/ self-care can become distructive to the mind :
An open-ended essay thread 🤎☁️

In a time of self-help and working on bettering ourselves. I want to remind people that it is okay if you can not live up to the standard of what people are selling you online. ✨️
There are many videos on the Internet of Men and Women creating content that promotes more of an aesthetic appearance than actual nutrition to the mind. I'm talking about videos such as "My morning routine," "What I eat in a day," "Workout routines," and so much more. ✨️
As much as these videos do make points and can offer an individual, especially a beginner, tips, and even a direction to start going in, in order to begin improving their life. It can also do harm in the process. ✨️
Where this can become an issue is when we start to obsess over this lifestyle and begin to overconsume content similar to it. When this happens, we get so caught up in trying to maintain this appearance of which we have everything put together that, it turns us into a slave. ✨️
You'll start to think that if you miss a day of drinking your lemon water or choose the french fries over the salad, and skip that workout routine cause you got a hangover from partying too hard the night before that now everything is soiled and you failed. ✨️
What these creators are not telling you is behind the scenes of this appearance, and all this aesthetic is that they themselves are human too. They have moments where they don't wanna drink that tea or read that book. Moments where they skip the gym or forget to floss. ✨️
It would be robotic and absurd to show this lifestyle and have the audacity to say that this is something sustainable 24/7 or even forever. And it's not about that what they're showing you is false. It's more about what they're not showing you, and that's the issue. ✨️
Because if there is one thing that is guaranteed in life, it is change. Nothing can last forever, even the good. So, what's the conclusion? All in all, it is ok if you can not live up to the standards or demands that these people are trying to show you or even sell you on. ✨️
It's ok to drink the soda or even stay up till 3 am, nothing bad is going to happen. You can maintain a healthy minded and nutritious lifestyle while still allowing yourself to let loose or splurge a little. ✨️
The End ☘️
