My housemates found out that my boyfriend used to be a bartender and now we are having a semi-impromptu Tipsy Mikado Night with the Essgee DVD.

Oh man. The Essgee production is quite possibly the gayest Mikado ever. Bare chests and tight pants abound on every male character except KoKo. The ladies are relatively covered, but the maids are a doowop group. Seriously this production looks like a vaguely Oriental-themed gay bar decided to have Mikado Night. I would not have been the least bit surprised if Katisha started singing "Off With His Shirt" from Galavant. Ok, I'd be a little surprised, since this was from the late 90s, and Evil Time Travel would be required.

Who here of the G&S squad has seen the Essgee production of HMS Pinafore? Because it's amazing. Highlights include: - Little Buttercup. - Captain Corcoran being an Adorable Dork™ - Dick Deadeye running a casino on pay days - Any scene with Sir Joseph. HE LOOKS AND ACTS LIKE CRAZY FROG - Any scene where Buttercup and the Captain interact in any way - Their rendition of "Never mind the why and wherefore" which includes some verses you wouldn't hear at D'Oyly Carte. - Sir Joseph - and his sister and cousin and aunt - did I mention Sir Joseph? - "hELLO sAILOR"
