Dearest Haley-kins,

I know, I know. I can already tell what you’re thinking. You told me I didn’t have to write to you. You weren’t going to be visiting your cousin at Salem for long- you’d be back very soon. Blah, blah, blah. But okay, see here’s the thing. I am the worst when it comes to listening and taking directions from people. Like really, you can probably ask any of the professors back at Hogwarts. Either way, I just couldn’t stand the thought of not talking to you. I mean, not that there isn’t anyone I can talk to. Lunetta hasn’t been so annoying and… Nevermind. I digress. Point is, I wrote to you anyways. So you’re going to have to deal with it when you come back home.

So, I just came back from Milan Fashion Week and oh my godly Godric, I could have sworn I saw someone who was practically the reincarnation of Coco Chanel. Wow! You probably have no idea what I’m talking about, but it’s okay, love. It wasn’t even her so it was a let down. Shortly after that encounter, I got you this really nice Oscar de la Renta dress. It’s not a big deal- it was from an old collection, but it’s absolutely stunning and classic and I thought of you as soon as I saw it. Obviously, I brought things home of my own, so we’ll be playing house in them as soon you get back.

Remember that time we discussed karma? You know. Well, you’d like this. I was passing by The Leaky Cauldron today when this older woman dropped her things on the side of the road after some git walked into her. Either way, she wasn’t rude about it, and luckily, the man apologized for bumping into her but he ran off for some reason. Must have been too much in a hurry, so I thought it was best if I would help her out. She complimented my necklace, we got to talking, and ended up getting a butterbeer. Sweet woman. Apparently, she went to school alongside my mother. We exchanged information. I think I might visit her again with Lunetta. I don’t know- sister bonding or something? But that’s got to be good karma, right?

Okay, I’m going to stop and save the rest of the details for when you get here. I’ve talked too much, I know. Whatever. After this last school year without you, I’ve just missed you so much more. Like a lot. I’m so glad I’m done with school. I’m ready to start this whole “real world” thing with you… Yeah, I’m needy. But I’m also hot, so say hello to Nessa for me and get your cute butt over here already.

Our Reality

It wasn’t the wide spread epidemic of the era. It was their reality- her reality.

One thing was for sure- Estella never wanted her life to just settle. And not for one moment did it ever. Even after having Harrison and Charlotte, her two children with her wife Haley, Telly never ceased to let her life be grande and full of adventure. Numbers of travels continued soaring and her closet grew with every dress and new pair of shoes. Her lifestyle was an essential part of who Telly was. However, she was never a priss. She made sure to share the same well-endowed blessings with her family.

Even when life threw its curveballs, Estella still seemed to keep her posture upright and her skin well moisturized. One day, she was feeling horribly ill after Charlotte got the nasty flu. She was rushed into the emergency room at St. Mungo’s by some of the best mediwizards and mediwitches, only with the simple knowledge that she too had gotten the virus going around. Telly did have the same nasty flu. However, it was paired with the news of a diagnosis that would change her life from that moment forward.

At age 27, Estella was diagnosed with the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.

In the recent years, muggles considered HIV to be a “dud disease”- a disease that wasn’t exactly the death sentence it used to be, even though it wasn’t at all eradicated. Healers were still dumbfounded at how this mishap could have happened. Hypotheses surfaced from wrongdoings during childbirth (given that Telly decided on a natural “muggle” childbirth) or possibly blood transfusions to her sister Lunetta before she passed away of anemia. However, Telly shunned away the burdening idea that she was slowly dying. She wasn’t sick. If anything, Telly considered a chip on her shoulder- an accessory to her health.

That positive mentality- well, as positive her plan of denial could be- had helped her in the long run. Not letting the condition define her and the choices she made was the best mindset Telly could have given herself. This attitude kept her healthy longer, her motivation constantly running. She wasn’t about to give up on her life- and with that mentality, neither were her closest loved ones.

All seemed well even in the eye of the hurricane. The years following brought bi-weekly mediwitch check-ups, a strict diet, and potions and prescriptions for days. However, even after she made her life as normal as it was before, her depleting health was ultimately inevitable. Slowly, just as her twin sister had, Estella developed anemia, which became quite difficult to work with considering the interruptions with conflicting treatments. It was becoming harder to maintain her grande health, but Estella never let go. Not until the very end.

Estella had spent many long nights in St. Mungo's whenever she'd become very sick again, but this time wasn't going to be as lucky as any of the last. Estella's bronchitis had developed into full-fledge pneumonia- making it harder and harder for her to breathe or stand up in her bed. It had been days since she had checked into the hospital. Without any grand notice or invitation, family and friends all came to visit her, see how she was doing, say their last goodbyes. It wasn't spoken but it was certain. They knew those were her last days.

Haley never left Estella's side. Those two were inseparable as the days they had spent traveling all around the world. Every day, Haley would be the first thing Estella saw. She would either be fixing up the room- replacing flowers, fluffing pillows- to make sure Estella was comfortable, or when she woke up, Haley wold be in the chair in the corner trying to get some rest of her own. Every night, they had dinner. Sometimes with company, sometimes just them too- always with macaroons for dessert. They were Telly's favorite. And Telly always had her best jewelry on. Even in bed, she refused to look anything less than pristine and exemplary.

And to her last moment, she loved Haley. She loved as if it were the last good deed she could give to this world.

The night she died, Estella stared deeply into the eyes of the woman she loved, grasping her hand with the little strength she had left. Haley, the girl who had seen Telly for who she wanted to be, even before Telly had discovered who that was for herself. Haley changed Telly's life. She was always so much stronger than what Telly could have been. If it were the other way around, and Haley were to die first, Telly would go just moments after she did- just from the broken heart. But because of Haley, she was brave enough to open herself to love during the life time she did have. 

Estella didn't want to leave her. It was never going to be enough time- but she knew it was the moment to finally let go.

She lived long. She loved deeply. And at 68 years old, she left this world still as lovely as the day she graced it.
