The Hanmaids’s Tale Season 5 on September 14

Janine lying in a hospital bed after being nearly killed by Esther and wholeheartedly defending her to Aunt Lydia is one of her best character scenes. Janine is written in so many scenes as innocent and almost childlike, so the reminders every so often that there’s so much more to her hit so much harder. I hope she and Esther are able to reconcile in Season 6- I hope Janine can explain her motivations and apologise, I hope Esther can see that Janine was genuinely trying to give what felt like the only advice she could at the time. They’re both characters who have had such an awful time of it and their ways of coping are polar opposites but I do hope they can become friends.

So I’ve been listening to your early S1 & S2 podcasts (love them) and you guys are SO positive about S5 and hoping we’ll get loads of June and Nick. How are you feeling now? 😭

Thank you for listening and your sweet compliments! Honestly, yes, there was a lot of season 5 we loved but as you deduced from our pre season expectations, we were disappointed along with everyone else that there was so little Nick & June and so much Luke & June. However, since it was the second to last season of the show, we are cautiously optimistic that it bodes really well for Nick & June in season 6. If Nick & June were happily together already we’d be nervous about what obstacles would be coming their way in 6. As it stands, they still just need to clear the Luke obstacle as always. It’s abundantly clear June’s not in love with Luke and IS in love with Nick so we’re hoping they honor that in Season 6 by having her actually choose.

That said, Bruce has said in interviews he thinks she should have both so her not choosing is still a possibility. In summary though, we’re feeling pretty positive going into 6 since Bruce himself told us Nick & June tried but just cannot quit each other🤞💗
