Arctic Wargame

Justin Hall Spy Thriller #1

Arctic Wargame is billed as 'an adrenaline-drenched chilling spy thriller', but I had a lot of problems with it.  Perhaps I'm just not accustomed to a Canadian point of view, but I don't consider a dozen rifles 'enough for a small army' or proof that anyone's 'planning an attack against Canada'.  And I think it's impractical to send a 4-person team into the Arctic comprised of one male and three females, two of whom are desk jockeys with no field experience.

The plot isn't believable, the villain is too obvious, the clues are too broad, the agents too amateurish, and the action often questionable.  The author, who seems to carry a rather large chip on his shoulder against his big neighbor to the south, is completely unfamiliar with the world of espionage and has no knowledge whatsoever of tradecraft.

I'm sure Mr. Jones has had a lot of fun writing it, but this book needs a lot more substance and polish.
