that’s not something he’s ever been told before . not that nobody has ever commented on his face or mouth -- they have , both in good and bad ways ( although thankfully and more favourably this face has typically been referred to in a good way . ) but never before has the area around his mouth been described as tragic . what can he even say to that ? he lifts his hand , he presses his fingers across his lips as if to check that his mouth is still in fact there . is she trying to tell him that he’s sad ? is she trying to tell him that he talks too much ? that the things he utters are disappointing ? it could be anything , and all options listed so far are quite accurate . it’s a mouth that is rarely used for anything bar talking and drinking tea , though has more recently found the joy in a kiss .
❝ tragic ? ❞ he echoes , though his voice is barely more than a whisper . ❝ how so ? i’ve never thought it tragic before . ❞
