MAGNITUDE OF GENERALIZED ANXIETY AMONG HEALTH PROFESSIONALS WORKING ON COVID-19 AT DILLA REFERRAL HOSPITAL DILLA, ETHIOPIA | Asian Journal of Advances in Medical Science

Background: Corona confirmed cases are growing from time to time in Ethiopia, and health care workers have been exposed to dangerous infection groups on the front line. For optimal care and clinical outcomes for patients, the mental health of the health care provider is important. The goal of this study was to assess the current mental health status of health care workers and related factors in response to the pandemic. Methods: From April 5-10, 2020, a hospital-based cross-sectional survey using a consecutive sampling methodology was employed. The screening method used to assess present anxiety symptoms was Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7). Multivariate Logistic regressions were used to classify variables correlated with the outcome variable at 95 percent CI and p< 0.05. Results: A total of 326 respondents were enrolled in this study, and the overall GAD prevalence was 40.2 percent . Variables associated with general anxiety disorder were female, family size 3+, nurses, outpatient and emergency care jobs, and 95 percent confidence interval, p< 0.05. work experience for 3 years, p< 0.05. Conclusions: This study found that in response to the pandemic, more than one-third of the respondents had a general anxiety disorder, and specified groups of participants were female, nurses, family size 3 +, and work experience of about three years. In order to promote the mental health status of health practitioners for improved and high-quality health care, urgent psychological intervention and preparation should be given for a defined group of people.
