.cloak & dagger
ft. @etxjungkook.
wonho despises the future kingdom. even as a child, he was never a fan of things he could not explain, and the ‘technology’ ridden part of eutopia is the biggest mystery of all to him. whenever he ventures out into the place, wonho feels uncomfortable in his skin, senses on high alert for the duration of his visit. someday, he’ll master his distaste for the kingdom, but until then he has underlings to deal with any business involving the area.
there are, however, some matters he cannot trust his subordinates with. his people are not stupid (he would not keep them on otherwise), but this particular errand is too delicate for someone else to handle. the age old saying stands true: if you want something done right, you must do it yourself. and so for the first time in weeks, wonho dons his black cloak, saddles his horse, and rides out under the cover of night.
the journey is short; wonho rides hard and stops only occasionally to rest his horse. upon crossing into future kingdom territory, he pulls his hood low over his face in an effort to remain inconspicuous, but the horse attracts undue attention. metal carriages are more common than flesh-and-blood beasts here. as a result, he is forced to lurk in the outskirts of the main city, relying on couriered messages to contact the man he’s come so far to meet. thankfully, wonho has an agent stationed in the kingdom who can aid him.
the meeting he requests is with an assassin of some note--the name jeon jungkook crossed wonho’s desk a few weeks ago and was filed away for future use. wonho never thought he’d require the man’s services so soon (not when he has trustworthy royal huntsmen of his own), but he needs this for the perfect, untraceable crime.
the sun is beginning to set by the time he steps into the seedy tavern-like place in an emptier part of town. still cloaked, wonho finds a secluded place to sit and leans back in the stiff seat, waiting for the assassin to arrive. the hood hampers his vision, but he’s aware of the stares the handful of patrons give him, followed by mutters behind their hands. wonho’s momentarily tempted to flash his dagger to shut them up, but the laws of the future kingdom prohibit such displays. a shame.
