The Knight and Apple as a prompt!
OKAY SO THIS ASK MADE ME REALIZE THAT THE KNIGHT IS OUTDATED AND IT'S UPDATED THIS MAN IS NOW THE JOURNALIST. he's still a sweetheart though <3 Onto writing !
The traveler ran into the inn's main room, holding up a little paper, claiming victory. The innkeeper, alarmed, ran to him, asking what was going on this time.
"Master innkeeper, he exclaimed, see this !"
And, on a perfectly flat surface of paper, with no hint of graphite or paint, he held up to the innkeeper a picture of an apple. It was not a drawing that could have been done in less than a day by anyone but master, and yet here this one weird man from Etynda came out of a room he'd been in for maybe an hour holding up a perfect reproduction of an apple on paper and showing it to everyone present.
"By Aeteris, how did you do this ? Magic ?"
It would have been the most logical explanation, but the traveler enthusiastically shook his head.
"Not even magic, my good sir ! With the help of the materials i asked you to gather yesterday, and that second room i rented for this - it's a photograph ! A very good one at that, if I allow to flatter myself."
The innkeeper nodded, trying to understand how the hell some mercury and a hot plate would make a drawing appear out of thin air. The stranger patted him on the shoulder, told him he could explain all the chemistry behind it later, if he wanted to visit the second room he'd rented. For now, he was just incredibly proud of his photograph of an apple.
"May I ask," said one of the regulars, "if you say it's not even magic, is it supposed to be easier ?"
"Kind of, kind of not ! Mostly, I am proud of myself because I am making these far away from my studio, where I have everything i need, and here I am in Eshda, where you all have been incredibly kind to provide me with nonsensical things."
The woman laughed, told the stranger that he sounded like one of those painters from the cities who marveled at the existence of tubes of paint.
"Why, that's exactly it ! You know, these were only invented in the last 60 years, in Etynda !"
And he launched himself into an explanation of paint tubes, followed by how exactly his photographs worked, while everyone passed around the simple, yet incredibly detailed picture of an apple he'd taken during the day.
