Eubora Nunziata, master necromancer, and his young apprentice Ottone Ordelaffi bid farewell to the subject of another successful resurrection. Only the necromancers of topmost repute are permitted to work with the Aquila family and those of its branch families. Here, Nunziata has resurrected Justina Gallo, cousin to the duke. Her bedchamber reflects the recovery practices penned by the Lafossan school of necromancy. Subjects of resurrection are encouraged to shelter away from direct sunlight and to sup only on meals of thin, milky broth. For a short time, Justina's eyes will take on a similarly milky film, and so the curtains 'round her bed will be drawn so as to not cause her pain. Such practices ensure that that resurrected's soul settles comfortably back into its vessel. She will no doubt enjoy a long and leisurely recovery as a member of the ducal clan, but for families who must scrape together coin for a necromancer's services, accommodations following resurrection may not be so fine.

many other states are ruled by necromancers due to their sway over life and death, but the aquilas have lafossas necromancers on a tight leash. have you ever wondered what power they yield to subjugate such a powerful class? well. me too the goal of this was basically to demonstrate that MOST necromancers produce results like this. when you focus on wanpyr stories it can be easy to forget that most necromancers are like, good at their job. heres something else to think about, though: necromancers require death for their services to be necessary. plenty of death is unavoidable, but lafossas biggest export is its necromancers, and so their healthcare system is basically nonexistent. there is not a huge vested interest in food safety, sewage management, treatment and containment of diseases, etc. if you cant afford to cough up for a necromancer when your kid croaks of food poisoning, oh well! youre on your own. i imagine swaths of the city smell really bad and are really really REALLY gross when i draw lafossa scenes, i like to put wear and tear on the surfaces. scuffs and scratches in wood, cracks in tile, mended tears in fabric. but this one depicts lafossa pre-stampede, and this is also a ducal bedchamber. so everything is in much finer condition. it was hard not to draw my usual little details, lol
