West Pier, Brighton, 29.12.17. I first photographed this pier in October 1987. A Eugenius Birch masterpiece, the pier was more or less complete, but was closed for safety reasons. I photographed it in black and white on my Mamiya RB67 at an exposure of around a minute. Today, just after a fish and chip lunch, and from exactly the same spot (a concrete protrusion 300m west of the pier) on an extremely windy day, I photographed it on my Leica M240 at 1/1000th of a second.
