“Nine...ten...eleven...twe- where’s Mya?” Seungwoo stopped at the end of his count. “We really need to leave.”
“I’m coming!” She shouted from her room.
“She’s literally never late.” Junho complained. “But the day we’re going to bring gift baskets to needy families, suddenly she’s running behind.”
“Maybe she just hates needy families.” Dongpyo deadpanned. “She probably wants to steal all of the turkeys for herself.”
“I’M READY!” Mya shouted triumphantly, jumping out into the living room.
“Mya...” Seungwoo regretted every one of his life decisions.
“You look amazing!” Seungyoun laughed.
“You like it?” She did a little hop-turn, showing off her elf costume. A little green dress, yellow tights, pointed shows and a hat on top of her pigtails. “I bought it yesterday.”
“Why are you dressed like Peter Pan?” Eunsang asked.
“I’m an elf!” She protested, hurrying to grab her jacket. “And I wanted to bring a little extra Christmas cheer, since you guys clearly couldn’t be bothered.”
“Hey, I brought a Santa hat.” Dohyon pointed out.
Mya beamed and clapped her hands. “And you look so cute, baby.”
He grinned. “Thanks.”
“Can you actually help lift gift baskets in that?” Minhee asked. “Or are you going to trip on those clown shoes?”
“Elf shoes.” She corrected. “And I’m in Yohan and Hangyul’s group.”
“Ah.” No further explanation was needed. If Yohan and Hangyul were involved, Mya would be doing absolutely no heavy lifting.
“Let’s just go.” Seungwoo sighed. “Everyone please, just be normal.”
“I’m so normal!” Mya announced, marching out the door first.
It was literally a seven minute walk to where they were meeting their manager. But Mya seemed determined to make the walk as embarrassing for the rest of them as possible.
First, she hopped across all of the lines at the cross-walk. In front of a row of waiting cars. She was small enough that it required a good deal of effort, but she made it all the way across the road, pigtails bouncing behind her.
“Just walk normally!” Dongpyo begged.
Mya held her hat onto her head. “No way! These shoes were made for jumping!”
“Are we sure she’s older?” Hyeongjun asked Dohyon. “Because right now...”
“I’m pretty sure she’s possessed.” Dohyon offered. “It’s really the only explanation.”
“Do you think there’s a cure for that?” Seungwoo asked, exasperated. “Because she’s hopping into traffic.”
Once they were safely across the street, Mya refused to stop her antics. She wanted an instagram picture, and decided the only way for it to be appropriately Christmas-y was for her to be leaning off of a telephone pole.
Yohan hunched down with her phone, trying to get an angle she would like.
“Try to stick your leg out more, Mimi.” He suggested. “Yeah, there.”
The rest of them waited off to the side, trying to ignore how many people were walking by.
A couple walking their dog made eye contact with Mya.
She took off her cap and gave a polite nod. “Good morning!”
They hurried away.
She pouted and hopped down from the pole. “Maybe they aren’t having a very good day.”
“Must be.” Hangyul wrapped an arm around her shoulders. “But we’re running late, so we really need to go.”
“Right! We have to bring gift baskets!” She ducked out from under his arm, hurrying towards Seungwoo and grabbing his hand. “Come on, Oppa. Why didn’t you tell me we were late?”
He clenched his jaw. “I forgot.”
She beamed. “It’s okay. We remembered. Are you in the Christmas spirit?”
“Oh yeah.” He looked down at her ridiculous figure. “Having the time of my life.”
Mya looked over his outfit. “You dressed kind of boring.”
He was wearing a normal sweater, jacket and jeans, which he hadn’t found to be particularly offensive.
“I dressed for work, Mimi. You were supposed to, too.”
She shrugged. “I dressed for the emotional labour. Here, this might help your efforts.”
She took off her little green cap, standing on her tip toes to place it on his head.
He reached up immediately to take it off, but she grabbed his hand and held it down.
“You need to be cheerful.” She scolded. “For Christmas.”
“Mimi, this hat is ridiculous.” He protested.
She frowned. “I guess you’re just a grinch then.”
“I am not a grinch!” He exclaimed.
“Only a grinch wouldn’t wear the hat.” She turned and looked at the boys walking behind them. “Cha Cha, will you wear the hat?”
Junho looked up in surprise, having no idea why he was now involved in the conversation. “What? Yeah, I guess.”
Mya reached up to grab the hat.
Seungwoo dodged out of the way.
“You want the hat now?” Mya smirked.
He shook his head. “No, but you gave it to me. So I’m going to wear it.”
“And do you feel more cheerful?” She elbowed him.
He sighed. “A bit. Happy?”
Mya beamed. “Very. Now, let’s go give out Christmas baskets! WOOOOO!”
