Random Kuro AU: The Cambion

I was having some late-night thoughts about the Kuro ladies (as is my wont), and realized there was one in particular who I’ve neglected and who hasn’t exactly received the best treatment at the hands of the fandom: Mathilda Simmons the nun.

Based on a couple of screenshots from the Hamlet OVA, some have speculated that Mathilda’s infamous roll in the hay with Sebastian resulted in her being pregnant with his child. This set my fic-writer’s brain churning. Let’s say there’s some truth to this theory. If she survived said pregnancy, what would the child be like, and what would become of this single mother? Thus the idea for The Cambion was born. (”camion” is the term used to refer to half-human, half-demon children, especially if the demonic parent was an incubus or succubus)

In this AU, Sebastian was genuinely attached to O!Ciel (in a platonic father/son sense), which compelled him to stay on Earth after eating the Earl’s soul. Out of compassion, the Midfords add him and the other Phantomhive servants to their staff. I know this is improbable, but make-believe land can have whatever you want. :P Around this time, a pregnant and desperate Mathilda shows up at the doorstep--as a single mom, she has nowhere else to turn, and strange, unnerving things have been happening to her. The other Phantomhive servants are shocked and disappointed in Sebastian, and Frances Midford reads Sebastian the riot act, making it clear there will be hell to pay if he doesn’t take responsibility and help Mathilda out. Sebastian is forced to confess that he’s actually a demon because even he can’t explain away all the obvious signs that Mathilda’s carrying a diabolical child. Mathilda is understandably furious and upset at being duped by the butler, but she resolves to keep their baby, and the other servants rally around her and (eventually) forgive Sebastian for deceiving them and devouring O!Ciel. Through circumstances that I need to figure out, it’s revealed that Mathilda has a latent aptitude for witchcraft; this, along with Sebastian’s efforts, enable her and the child to survive delivery. Babey turns out to be a son, who Mathilda names Eusebius (”pious”; he’s called “Eusie” for short). His character design is heavily based on Yato from Noragami. Eusie can be quite a handful; he’s a naughty little scamp with an unfortunate tendency to get into scrapes, much to his mother’s dismay. It takes a while for him to master his dark powers (he has a lot of “horsepower,” which is challenging to manage), even with Sebastian’s guidance, and his very presence tends to attract all manner of supernatural creatures to the Midford residence. As he matures, Eusie grows into a mighty warlock with a knack for necromancy. Sometimes, he can cruel and ferocious.

Most of the time, though, he’s a lovable dork.

Along the way, Mathilda would grow into a powerful witch in her own right and realize that she’s actually a lesbian (and maybe settle down with a loving wife). Though her relationship with Sebastian is rocky at first, they gradually come to stand on equal footing and put aside their differences for the sake of their son.

I have no clue what (if anything) I will do with this idea, but I thought I’d go ahead and write it into existence.

Aarushi: Along with Agni, Aarushi practices Hinduism. However, they show reverence towards all deities and believe that all life is sacred.

Eusebius: Eusie doesn't have strong opinions where religion is concerned. As a necromancer, though, he's fascinated by the lore surrounding death in many religions, particularly from ancient Egypt. He has a dog-eared copy of the Egyptian Book of the Dead that he's read dozens of times.

Rose: She doesn't bother. She loves her family, her friends, and her hellhound, and that's enough for her. Rose is more focused on living in and enjoying the present than concerning herself with higher powers.

Xander/Rhea: Xander does believe in "something bigger" out there, and they also believe that, being part divine themselves, they have an obligation to use their powers to help others.

Viola: Highly inquisitive and skeptical, Viola has a dismissive attitude toward many human religions, but, like Xander, she does think that higher forces exist and act outside the realm of scientific understanding.27. Sleep

Aarushi: They have a human's sleep requirements. Curls up on their side in soft pajamas like a little angel, hugging Miss Bunny to their chest. Prefers to be surrounded by stuffed animals and fluffy pillows.Eusebius: Always manages to take up the whole bed, arms and legs thrown out. He tends to snore, sleeptalk, and toss and turn a fair bit. Sometimes drools, though he will get really salty and deny it if you call him out on it.

Rose: Hogs the blanket. Is the type of person who likes to sleep under a warm comforter with the air conditioning on.

Xander: Usually invites some of the cats to sleep with him. He prefers to have someone with whom to cuddle ( @deadly-safety-scissors Like Astre...)Viola: Due to her demonic abilities, she only needs a few hours of sleep each night. She prefers to stay up reading, planning her next date with her girlfriend Nina, the next set of experiments in the lab, or just thinking about life28. Home

Aarushi: Aarushi has made dozens of paintings on the walls of their home. Neither Sebastian nor Agni could bear to remove them because they're so beautiful.

Eusebius: Eusebius has a restless heart and lives an itinerant existence once he comes of age; he's happiest on the move. However, the Midford estate is his safe harbor to which he always eventually returns, where he can count on loving parents and friends to be waiting for him.

Rose: Rose likes a living space that's a bit of a cozy mess, which is one of the reasons why her room tends to be messy. It drives Viola nuts.

Xander: For Xander, "home" is family, first and foremost.

Viola: Viola gets deeply attached to each new Sutcliff-Michaelis residence. Her demon powers help her pick up on the spiritual energy of the previous occupants, and she loves learning about the history of each house (forensics gorl!)

For Eusebius Simmons (son of Sebastian and Mathilda the nun):

🌸: What are some of their favorite things and why? List as many as you can think of!

Playing pranks. His mischievous streak is a mile wide, so the cambion is always causing a ruckus around the manor! It's all in good fun, though, and his pranks are never malicious.

Practicing necromancy (he happens to have considerable innate talent in this art). There's an enormous thrill out of getting the dead to do his bidding, of course, but Eusie also enjoys learning more about the subject and hearing the stories the spirits have to tell him of their past lives. I could also see him summoning a bunch of the dead just for the sake of throwing a huge dance party!

Having Mathilda read to him. He loves his mom, and this quiet time together is something he cherishes.

Climbing. Eusie isn't sure why, but he loves clambering up trees or up onto the rooftop and gazing out at the world around him.

💫: What is your favorite fact about this character and why?

He’s lively and optimistic (guess this is more of a character trait than a fact, but I digress). Eusie can be a little gremlin, but there's this irrepressible spunk and joie de vivre about him, too. A far cry from your stereotypical gloomy necromancer!

For the kittens:

🍁: Where does your OC go when they need to have some time to themself? Would they ever have their own “comfort corner” filled with all the things they like? Do they have a favourite spot outside that feels like its theirs and theirs alone?

Rose usually goes out riding on her motorcycle or on a long walk--she's the type of person who thinks best on the move.

Xander's/Rhea's room is their inner sanctum. Most of Xander's prized possessions are there, as well as their comfy bed (he'll sit there hugging his knees to his chest when in deep thought). His "special spot" would be Darcy Braithwaite's grave (Darcy was a mortal childhood friend who died in a car crash involving a drunk driver). Xander regularly has picnics at her gravesite because the two of them often had picnics at the park when he was little.

Viola tends to retreat to her room, or she might hang out in her office at dispatch or in the little studio that Sebastian built for the kittens' music lessons (playing the cello helps her calm down when she's upset). She doesn't exactly have a special outside place, but she might jump into another dimension for a few minutes if she really wants some time to herself.

🍄: What are your OCs favourite snacks? Their favourite comfort food which always cheers them up when they’re down? Favourite meal to make? Do they enjoy baking and cooking and are they any good in the kitchen?

Rose: Potato chips! Her comfort food is mashed potatoes with lots of butter. Her favorite meal to make would probably be spaghetti. She likes baking reasonably well (Bassy made sure all the kittens learned how to cook), though it's not her favorite activity.

Xander: Cheese toast. His comfort food is Chinese takeout with extra fried rice. Xander just loves cooking in general, especially for friends and family. He's the best of the three!

Viola: The souls of the damned! >:3 Since she only eats souls, cooking can be a bit of a challenge because her sense of taste for mortal food is extremely dull. Despite that, she knows her way around a kitchen, viewing recipes as "lab protocols" that will yield desirable results if followed properly.
