i don't think this counts as an 'unpopular opinion' but i'm really curious about what you think about stella and christina ( stella's speech-language pathologist )?

sorry my response is so late! i wanted to seriously research and consider my answer, at least as much as i can in one sitting.

after reading a few articles about christina hunger and her dog, stella, i am unconvinced that stella understands words and their meanings, which is what christina often claims. out of the articles that i read, these two offer the most insight.

based on how christina supposedly trained stella to use the buttons, i'm wondering how much stella truly understands the words as opposed to simply understanding what reactions the words will get. have they tried rearranging the buttons or switching the colors of the buttons to test if stella is associating a position or color with an action instead of the word itself? or, since we rarely see christina in these videos, could stella be pressing certain buttons based on the unconscious body language of christina or other people in the room?

the most obvious worry is that christina is reading too deep into what stella is "saying," or possibly not deep enough.

for example, in one of their most recent posts, christina asks stella, "what's wrong?" stella barks and presses the button: mad. christina asks, "why are you mad?" stella presses the buttons: stella, eat, eat, eat.

christina says that stella was trying to communicate that she wants to have her morning snack and is upset that she did not get it yet. alternatively, i'd suggest that stella pressed the mad button because she interprets the question of, "what's wrong?" as a cue for that button. (it's a specific, pointed question.) she barks in the video, which she may have been doing before as a means to get christina's attention. then she presses the stella and eat buttons because she knows that she may get a treat if she does so.

but that's just my opinion 😉👉🏻👉🏻

i'm really curious about your enthusiastic nutrition opinions. i picked up the normal vet opinions about food, like "if it works leave it alone" and "prescription diets are important" and "trust no one". is there anything you've always wanted to be asked? pretend i asked that.

Okay I’ve been letting this sit because I’ve been thinking about what exactly I want to say.

Firstly, I have no formal training or knowledge or anything on dog food so keep that in mind.

But primarily I try to follow “feed the dog in front of you”. I have no preference of raw or kibble, mostly because I’ve always had kibble fed dogs and don’t have practical raw experience. I definitely think there’s a lot of merit in adding fresh food to a dogs diet like meats(raw especially), veggies, etc. My opinions on what constitutes a “good”kibble really has changed a lot, but honestly I think foods tested with feeding trials are “best”. I’m not against brands like Purina, etc. For Sophie specifically, I’m really liking Instinct for her, with fresh food mixed in. She also does well on Taste of the Wild(even though I dislike their lack of feeding trial). I’m hoping to take an animal nutrition class or two formally through my school, but this is kind of a starting off point.

If anyone wants to chime in and add whatever, definitely do that! Learning all around.

Jindo Gae because it’s big, brave and lives longer. Also Caucasian Shepherd because holy hell that is a lot of fur! It looks like a bigger, meaner version of the Leonberger and I’m digging it?
