EUIPO on a record run: In 2025, 327,735 new applications for EU Trade Marks (EUTM) and EU Designs were filed—more than ever before since filings began in 1996. That’s +7.8% compared to 2024 and even above the previous record year 2021 (313,928). The main driver is the EU Trade Mark: 196,886 EUTM filings in 2025 (+9.1%). More than 57.5% of applications come from EU Member States; within the EU, Germany (12.7%), Italy (6.9%), and Spain (6.4%) led the way. Internationally, the system remains highly attractive: China continued to grow (+13.3%) and accounts for nearly 16% of EUTMs, followed by the US (9%) and the UK (4.2%). What I find particularly interesting: these volumes don’t just mean “more IP”—they also highlight the increasing pressure on processes, data quality, and turnaround times. This is exactly where we at focus: with our EUIPO interface (REST API), EU trade mark applications can be created directly from within the workflow—less copy/paste, fewer system breaks, fewer error sources. When filing volumes rise, automation shifts from a “nice to have” to an operational necessity. #EUIPO #EUTM #Trademark #Design #IPManagement #LegalTech #WorkflowAutomation #Genese #PatentAttorney #TrademarkLaw #genese #GwebWorkspace https://www.euipo.europa.eu/en/news/euipo-records-the-highest-number-of-applications-in-its-history
